Ryan Reynolds has chosen the second team he wants to buy after Wrexham

The Deadpool actor has set his sights on a second sports team

Ryan Reynolds' purchase of Wrexham has been a huge success thus far, but the actor is already setting his sights on a second sports team.

Reynolds, alongside Rob McElherney, paid £2 million to purchase the team back in February 2021.

After 98.6 of the supporters voted in favour of allowing the pair to take control, they have led the team to major success since.

So deep is Reynolds' devotion to the team, he has reportedly set up shop in the nearby village of Marford where he has purchased a £1.5 million property.

And now the Canadian actor is looking to add another team to his portfolio.

Reynolds has made no secret of the fact that he's fan of the Ottawa Senators, his local hockey team from when he was growing up. And back in November, Reynolds confirmed he was trying to make the purchase a reality.

Talking on The Tonight Show, the 46 year old said: "I am trying to do it.

"But it’s very expensive. I need a partner with very deep pockets."

The Senators, currently owned by The Melnyk family, are believed to be worth £571 million.

Reynolds isn't short of cash, especially after selling his Mint mobile company to T-Mobile for £1 billion, but he thinks a consortium is the best way to go.

He explained: "It’s called a consortium when you form a group together to buy an entity. It’s a fancy way of saying I need a sugar mummy or a sugar daddy."

It remains to be seen whether or not wife Blake Lively backs his decision to buy up the team, as she was initially not excited about him buying Wrexham.

After telling her the 'really bad news' that he had bought fifth-tier Wrexham, he recalled to McElherney that her reaction was "not good".

Asked how she responded, Reynolds joked: "Not good, Rob. Not great. We’re still working through that one."

Reynolds was recently awarded the Freedom of Wrexham honour for his work with the club, and he reflected on the initial purchase at the ceremony.

Reynolds said: "I think back to that first moment. We were on Zoom speaking to the Wrexham Supporters' Trust and I don't think I have ever been as nervy as I was in that exact moment.

"I'm so touched I get to be a part of this story. I know that we are here so that you guys can thank us for some reason, but I feel like it is the other way around.

"We want to thank you for what you have given us. Words are too clumsy to quantify what it means to me."
