Saudi Arabia fans are celebrating in style after beating Argentina in the Group C openers today.

Saudi Arabia beat Argentina 2-1 - and the fans did not hold back when it came to celebrating. You can see how that looked here:

In words I bet you didn’t think you’d be reading today, Saudi Arabia managed to finish Argentina's 36-game unbeaten streak - and in their very first game of the tournament no less.

In footage shared on social media, fans can be seen jumping up and down wildly celebrating and they didn't stop there - in another clip some fans be seen sat atop a giant horse, much like the Trojans heading into Troy.

I mean, fair play to them, that's commitment to a celebration.

But they’ve got good reason to celebrate, the team were 1-0 down after Lionel Messi scored a penalty just 10 minutes into the match - making one of few footballers who can claim to have scored in four World Cups. Impressive.

Despite being 1-0 down, the Saudi Arabian side didn’t let that get them down and managed to pull off what is already being called one of the biggest upsets in World Cup history.

In a post on Twitter, Gary Lineker wrote: "That is one of the greatest upsets in World Cup history. Extraordinary performance from Saudi Arabia."

Saleh Alshehri and Salem Aldawsari scored within five minutes of each other in the second half to secure the win.

Inside the stadium, the noise from the crowd hit new highs as the second goal sailed into the net.

And once the 90-minutes was up, the fans weren’t quite finished with their celebrations.

I have a lot of questions about the guys who turned up on the giant horse, to be honest, but I do respect the effort and I look forward to what they've got planned for any future wins.

The loss saw Argentina’s chances of winning the World Cup drop to just 8.6 percent, having sat at 12.6 percent prior to the tournament kicking off. Ouch.

Stat fans may also be keen to know that Argentina had been favourites to top Group C - on 65.8 percent - but that’s since dropped to 27.3 percent.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia aren’t actually too far behind - they’ve seen their odds of topping the group rise to 20.7 percent, according to BBC, and have a 46.2 percent chance of making it to the final 16.
