People left absolutely terrified after man dropped GoPro off cruise to show true reality

If you've ever wondered what lies beneath, a YouTuber shared some wild GoPro footage of all the creatures swimming under your cruise ship

If you've got a GoPro on stand-by and find yourself sailing the seven seas, the next logical step is to throw it overboard.

Otherwise, how else are you going to find out what's really going on below the surface while you're gallivanting around on a cruise ship?

Thankfully, for those of us who don't own a GoPro and aren't currently cruising the world, a number of people have uploaded their own chilling footage online for us to watch.

We've previously seen how waterproof cameras captured sharks skulking around, strange sounds regurgitating from the depths and creatures that even scientists can't explain.

And when nature lover Odysseas Froilan dropped his camera off the side of a cruise ship back in 2021, he also obtained quite an extraordinary bit of footage.

He uploaded the over seven-minute clip to YouTube, explaining that he was travelling on a vessel which had been docked in the Bahamas 'for a long time'.

The content creator told his 10,600 subscribers that as a result of this, the sand on the seabed was able 'to settle', allowing him to obtain 'clear images' of what was going on underwater.

Explaining the rigmarole that's involved with dropping a GoPro off the side of a cruise ship, Froilan said: "I used a GoPro case to withstand the pressure and some simple stabilisers that I made in order to prevent the rolling of the camera. For the same reason, I was waiting for a day with no wind and current. The GoPro was attached to a fishing line so I was able to feel the bottom of the sea.

"But I could check the footage only once I was bringing the camera up again. Initially, I started filming to see what was happening down there, but the footage was so cool I had to share."

He sent his camera down in daylight and at the witching hour too, in the hopes of seeing if things got a bit more exciting at night.

At the start of the clip, the GoPro runs into a school of inquisitive fish as it begins to sink to the depths, while some other aquatic creatures also make an appearance before it lands on the seabed.

For the most part, the footage just shows a calming scene of various fish swimming in the sea - but when night falls, some more sinister ocean-dwellers come out of the woodwork.

The darkness alone makes this portion of Froilan's video even more terrifying, but it's the presence of a number of sharks which really left viewers spooked.

The GoPro captured the predators navigating the ocean in the dead of night, while their eyes are chillingly lit up by the camera's night-vision mode.

Although they don't get up to anything that resembles a scene from Jaws, the unexpected arrival of the sharks unnerved a lot of social media users.

One person commented: "This was way more interesting than I thought it would be. There's something primally terrifying about seeing a shark emerge from the darkness like that."

Another wrote: "This video is literally my biggest nightmare. Thank you for letting me be able to experience it from a safe distance."

A third added: "The way I went from kicking my feet in the air at the cute fishies and thinking, ‘Maybe the ocean isn’t so scary after all’ in the day footage to blankly staring, terrified, at the night footage, further confirming my intense fear of the ocean."

While a fourth chimed in saying: "As someone who fears open water, this was delightfully terrifying."

It sounds like staying on dry land might be a better option for these lot.
