Politics isn't making the rich greedier and leaving the poor counting the pennies; Apple is!

Unless you've come up with some ingenious way of spreading the cost, like this girl, the iPhone7 is eye-wateringly expensive. And now there are rumours that the next generation of smartphones will burn an even larger hole in your bank account.

Next year will be the 10th anniversary of Apple's iPhone and we're all wondering how it will mark the occasion.

Rumour has it that Sharp, which makes the screens for the smartphones, believes that the answer lies in technology for the displays.

Tai Jeng-wu, president of Sharp, has recently hinted that the iPhone 8 will feature an OLED screen.

"The iPhone has been evolving and now it is switching from LTPS (low-temperature poly-silicon) to OLED panels," Jeng-wu told a group of students at Tatung University in Taipei.

"We don't know whether Apple's OLED iPhones will be a hit, but if Apple doesn't walk down this path and transform itself, there will be no innovation. It is a crisis but it is also an opportunity," he said, according to the Nikkei Asian Review.

Although this will send the price of the device soaring, tech experts believe that OLED screens provide the best kind of display because of its better colour reproduction. No longer will users require a backlight when taking photos and videos. Instead, an OLED-based screen lights up individual pixels when necessary.

If it doesn't allow me to play Snake, like my trusty Nokia 3210 did back in the day, I'm not interested.
