And they’ve even brought in footballer Lenell John-Lewis - aka “The Shop” - to help the nation get matchday-ready.

There are two types of people during a major football tournament: the ones who head straight to the pub, and the ones who realise that watching from home might actually be

the smarter move. And ahead of a huge summer of football, it looks like plenty of people are falling into the latter category.

According to new research from John Lewis, 58 percent of people saying they will be cheering on their team from the sofa – and who can blame them? No queues for the bar or loo, no blocked screens and no one shouting over the commentary at the exact moment something important happens.

But fear not, team. To help the nation get its home set-up ready, John Lewis has brought in someone very fitting: Lenell John-Lewis. Yep, the National League’s Boston United striker, known throughout football as “The Shop” after years of fans chanting “his name is a shop”, has teamed up with his namesake to help households prepare for the summer’s biggest matches.

It makes perfect sense too, because if everyone is coming round to yours for the big games, the pressure will be on to ensure a TV set-up that can almost make you feel like you’re slap bang in the middle of the action. And even more so given the fact that while the John Lewis research found that 81 percent of people say a high-quality TV set-up is essential when hosting, one in six admit their current set-up feels more “subs bench” than premium viewing experience.

Why go to John Lewis for your matchday set-up?

Thankfully, that’s where John Lewis truly comes into its own, making it easier for households to get properly game-ready with a curated range of home technology designed to bring that big-screen feeling into the living room.

Think TVs with visuals sharp enough to rival a VAR check and sound set-ups that mean you won’t miss a thing, with plenty to help keep fans alive and kicking for those late evening kick-offs.

They even price match* against 25 leading retailers including Amazon and Currys on electricals, and there’s always peace of mind with a five-year guarantee** as standard on all TVs, too (T&Cs apply*).

To discover the best tech set-up for your home this summer, we highly recommend heading to the John Lewis hub for more inspiration and expert recommendations.

What makes a TV great for sport?

When it comes to watching football at home, not all TVs are created equal. The latest tech includes AI motion-blur elimination, which is essential for tracking a fast-moving ball, while high-peak brightness from Mini-LED helps combat glare during sunny daytime kick-offs. A high frame rate is also key for handling fast-moving action on screen.

For night-time games, OLED models deliver a more cinematic viewing experience, with deep contrast and rich picture quality that helps bring the big-match atmosphere to life. Wide viewing angles are worth looking out for too, helping ensure every seat offers great picture quality, while a strong refresh rate helps reduce choppiness when the action moves quickly from one end of the pitch to the other.

Watching from home does come with its own rules, though. According to the research, the biggest matchday “red cards” include people talking through key moments, sitting directly in front of the TV and asking to pause the game to go to the loo. Don’t even get us started on that one.

So, whether you are hosting your mates for every big game, saving the proper set-up for the knockouts or finally admitting your current TV is not quite matchday-ready, now’s the time to get your home viewing sorted.

Because this summer, you do not want your set-up letting the side down.
