A flight expert has explained why your fashion choices matter if you're taking a flight, and you shouldn't wear leggings if you're going to indulge in a spot of air travel.
What you wear on a plane isn't just a question of looking good, it's also a case of being dressed in the right way in case you need to skedaddle quickly.
Speaking to IGV, aviation expert Christine Negroni explained that you really shouldn't be wearing leggings just in case of emergency, because those could end up making things worse for you than everyone else.
She said: "Most air accidents are survivable but many also involve fire.

"Leggings are made of synthetic materials. When these chemically produced fibres get hot, they melt and can bond to the skin.

"In 1999, the Federal Aviation Administration said that garments made of cotton, wool, leather, and yes, even denim were preferable over synthetics."
While flying is statistically one of the safer ways to travel there's a chance things will go wrong and if that happens you don't want to be the passenger whose leggings have melted and fused with their legs.
As for other flying fashion advice, Negroni said 'comfortable flats with a substantial sole that are easy to get off' should be your choice of footwear, especially since if you have to make for the exit in an emergency they can protect your feet against the elements and possible debris.
On top of that if you're ever tasked with going down the deployable slides to get out of the plane you'll be asked to remove heels for fear of popping the slide, so flat shoes were preferred.
Other flying fashionistas have talked about the need to avoid leggings on a plane, since you want to be able to avoid getting germs too close to your skin.

The cabins of planes are crawling with germs so many who spend a lot of time in there, flight attendants for one, make it clear you should be wearing trousers instead of shorts, skirts or leggings.
Even if your ultimate destination is sunny and warm on the other end of the journey you should dress for the cabin conditions, especially since you can always change once you've reached the airport.
Getting that proper layer between your skin and the yucky things covering the interior of a plane is one of the primary travel tips for the discerning passenger.
Speaking of which, you might not want to ask for a hot drink.
