Flight attendant reveals the things you should never wear on a plane including one very common item

Please dress appropriately for your flight

As much as you might plan on dressing for your holiday, you should also plan on dressing for your flight as well.

While your comfort has got to be a priority when you pack yourself into a small seat inside a metal tube, there's also such a thing as being too comfortable.

There are some people who take their shoes off on the plane - which is a pain for their fellow passengers as well as being a hygiene risk because the cabin is likely to be quite dirty.

While there are teams of people who clean the plane interior, the sheer number of buttocks that have been wedged into that seat before you means that the place is likely crawling with germs.

When wondering how to proceed on a plane, you should ask the people who spend the most time there - the flight attendants.

TikToking flight attendant Sille Rydell recently posted her advice on what not to wear while engaging in a spot of air travel, and as it turns out, she's got quite the list.

Of course flip flops are on there, as she pointed out that although they are belting for the beach, they're not much good for rushing around an airport or protecting your feet from crowds of your fellow passengers.

She also said she suspected that flip-flop wearing passengers were planning to take them off during the flight and walk around in their bare feet. Yuck.

Also on her list were shorts and crop tops, as she warned that 'the wrath' of plane air conditioning could be 'brutal' on exposed bits of skin.

Anything made of polyester or other synthetic fibres is also a big no-no for Rydell, as she says they aren't 'breathable' enough to cope with temperature changes in the cabin.

Similarly, the air hostess says that as tights are made out of synthetic fibres such as nylon and elastane, you shouldn't sport these for a flight either.

Warning that these materials are 'flammable', Rydell said: "Not what you want in case of fire. [The] fabric might burn into your skin."

Although gym sets are all the rage among travellers at the minute, the flight attendant says that 'tight, non-stretchy' clothes should stay at home, or in your suitcase.

"Your body bloats in the air," Rydell warned. "What feels snug on ground might feel like a corset in the sky."

She urged holidaymakers to choose 'comfort and safety' over style when catching a flight, while recommending that people bring 'layers that you can easily remove or add'.

Rydell added: "Your outfit might be cute at the gate, but at 38,000 feet? Not so much."

Social media users flooded the comment section of the flight attendant's TikTok to share their thoughts on her travel advice, as one person joked: "I'm watching this 20 minutes before boarding btw."

A lot of people admitted they regularly break Rydell's fashion rules when flying, with the overwhelming majority insisting that shorts and flip-flops were the comfiest options for plane travel.

Another said: "Whenever I go on a flight, even if it's long or short, I always wear something nice and comfy."

A third added: "I love flip flops though! But would never touch anything on a plane with my bare feet."

A fourth said: "Worst fail was leggings with a SOLID ribbed waist section. I needed a wee the whole time."

And a fifth chimed in saying: "I always wear jeans and trainers. We crash and I survive, I want extra material...I've seen Castaway!"
