Guy Gets Out Of Parking Fine Thanks To Brilliant Stick Drawing

Should be hung in a gallery.

A guy managed to get out of a parking fine after sending the authorities a stick drawing so good that it should probably be hung up at Tate Modern.

Teacher Steve Crowley received a letter through the post asking him to prove that he'd been shopping at the Lidl in Yate, when using the store's car park.

Basically, customers are allowed 90 minutes of free parking, but anyone using the car park who doesn't visit the store can face a fine.

Shoppers are supposed to register their number plate details at the checkout, but Steve forgot to do so. He also couldn't find his receipt from the trip to prove he had been shopping with his kids.

He was fined £45 and was told it would rise to £90 if he didn't pay it in 14 days.

Steve tried in vain to argue his case and resorted to just recreating the events of the day in the form of a stick drawing.

To his amazement, the fine was actually overturned. It probably helped that he referred to Lidl as a place 'where dreams come true'.

"It's hilarious that they accepted it," he said. "Their car parking policy isn't about protecting Lidl customers - it's about making money."

Athena ANPR Ltd, acting on behalf of Lidl, wrote: "Thank you for your email in regards to the above parking charge. We can confirm that the above parking charge has been cancelled."

Next time you get a parking fine, whip out some felt tips and get drawing.
