Mum cut off from rest of family after refusing to go on 10-hour flight with baby

"Don't call us again"

A mum has been cut off from the rest of her family after refusing to go on a 10-hour flight with her baby.

Kids on planes is a bit of a touchy subject for some people, so much so, a lot of people genuinely think there should be flights where they’re banned.

There’s always someone grumbling about banning babies when one is having an innocent little cry during a flight.

But while some passengers might be thinking of themselves, it’s not always the smoothest journey for the parent dealing with a screaming kid.

Like this mum who simply refuses to put her baby or herself through it – to the price of a family feud.

Writing to the ‘AmItheA**hole?!?’ forum on Reddit, the user asked if she was one for ‘refusing to go on a 10 hour+ flight with my baby’.

She began by explaining that her ‘parents hate my husband’, but that they accepted him for her ‘happiness’.

And she recently gave birth to their first child who they of course want to meet.

However, they live ‘nowhere near’ her home in North America and she says the flight ‘would be miserable’.

“I hate flying in general but with a baby?” she says. “I get anxious thinking about it.”

The mum explained she’s been putting it off for a long time and despite offering to pay for her parents to fly over, they said it was ‘disrespectful’ of her to even ask them to come.

She finally came to the conclusion that she can’t fly out there.

“I’m terrified of the reaction we might get since he does make a lot of noise,” she adds.

But when she called her mum to tell her they won’t be coming, it did not go down well.

“She got very angry and kept ranting about my husband keeping us away from them. She eventually said ‘forget it, we don’t want to see his child. Don’t call us again’.”

Ouch.

She’s since been told by a relative that her mum is ‘crushed’ although her dad isn’t too fussed. But she just can’t face the flight of over 10 hours with her four-month-old.

Users have reassured her she is ‘absolutely NOT TA’ saying ‘nothing’ should stop her parents.

Others said: “Don’t feel bad for not bowing to this self-centred, inconsiderate demand.”

And another even wrote: “Personally i would issue a travel ban for babies below a certain age. You don't inflict a 10h flight to a 4 month old. Asking you this is in the best case very selfish. So NTA.”
