Man who got caught on camera repeatedly trespassing to swim in family's pool comes forward with why he did it

Matt went viral for his pool stretches and he ended up riddled with guilt

Let’s be honest, when it gets super hot outside we sometimes find ourselves making slightly odd decisions or doing things that wouldn’t usually be the norm.

You know, like those blokes who seem to feel the need to walk down the high street topless as soon as the weather gets just one degree hotter.

And if you saw what appeared to be an unused swimming pool just sitting there, you might get the itch to go for a quick dip.

Like one man in Brisbane, Australia, who decided he’d cool off with a swim as he took a number of trips to a pool at what ‘looked like a display home’.

Only he ended up getting caught repeatedly trespassing as the family who actually lives there caught him on their CCTV.

Going viral as the ‘mystery swimmer’ who kept stopping by a family’s pool, Matt has now come forward to explain just why he did it.

Holly Stevens owns the home, as she said his visits with at least four separate swims left her and her family feeling threatened and vulnerable.

“It’s just a sense of entitlement from this man,” she told 7NEWS.

She explained that he appeared to have being going on runs and then stopping off in the pool to cool off and even stretch in the water.

“He’ll come through the front gate and he’ll walk around the side of the house and he’ll look inside the window each time to make sure no one’s home,” Stevens explained.

“And then once he’s checked that no one’s home, he’ll proceed to like take his shoes off, take his top off, jump in the pool.”

While he has declined to give his last name or age, Matt explained he ‘didn’t think anyone lived there’.

“So I just decided I was hot and thought I’d go for a swim,” he said.

"They didn't have an outdoor shower so there was nothing that could be done about it so I just had to make the most of it and jump in how I was.

"Luckily I wasn't nude or anything like that."

The lad turned himself into police on Sunday (27 April) and says it really was just a spontaneous decision as he’s riddled with guilt over the idea of ‘going to jail for swimming in someone’s pool’.

“To be honest, I didn’t sleep for a couple of days,” Matt said.

“I didn’t mean to make anyone feel unsafe.”

He was let off with a caution and told not to do it again, but his mates aren’t letting him off as they keep on with the digs.

“My cousins have been calling up and asking if I want to go for a swim at theirs,” the Aussie said.

“And my mates have been saying, ‘Yeah, come round for a swim, bro.’”

A Queensland Police spokesperson told the Daily Mail: "A man has been dealt with by way of adult caution after he allegedly trespassed on a property between January 19 and April 25, in New Farm."
