Bride-To-Be Orders Peacock Cake - Gets 'Lop-Sided Turkey With Leprosy'

There are so many things that can go wrong on a wedding day, from the bridal dress right down to the cake. But even in the very worst case scenario, neither of these should end up looking like 'a lop-sided turkey with leprosy'.

Unfortunately for a bride-to-be in the US, her wedding cake did... though I suppose this is preferable to her bridal dress making her look like a lop-sided turkey with leprosy.

This is not what the bride-to-be had in mind.

Rena Davis, from Griffin, Georgia, paid a baker $300 (£245) for her ideal peacock-themed celebration cake, featuring two birds, a heart shaped sponge and chocolate cupcakes.

In the weeks building up to the big day, the 52-year-old was reassured that everything was going 'to plan', but when the baker rocked up with the cake the night before, it seemed the 'plan' was to make a cake that looked like 'a lop-sided turkey with leprosy'.

To top it all off, after the baker left, Rena realised the fondant icing was actually buttercream - after one of the wonky bird's heads fell off. And then, the final straw: the baker refused to offer a refund.

Shaming the cake on social media, Rena's sister-in-law, Annette Hill, wrote: "The one 'peacock' looks like a turkey with leprosy or something, and the white bird, which isn't white at all, doesn't even have a tail or look like a bird in any way, it's just a brown BLOB!

It was supposed to look more like this.

"There's NOTHING supporting the 'birds' and the cake was already sinking so bad from their weight when it was delivered and it continued to sink worse overnight until the next morning, the day of the wedding, the birds were almost sitting on the bottom layer.

"So, on the morning of her wedding, the bride was going from store to store trying to find a cake that would be suitable to use for her wedding."

As you might expect, it is hard to get a hold of a bespoke peacock-themed cake in a matter of hours, and Rena ultimately had to get two cakes from Walmart - one with purple and green flowers on it, one was triple chocolate and had a tractor on it.

Because nothing says romance like a chocolatey tractor.

Justly, the baker did eventually offer a refund - but only after Annette's post went viral.

Rena had to spend the morning looking for cakes at Walmart.

Reflecting on the catastrophic cake, Rena said: "I felt heartbroken. I saw [the cake] and walked out of the room.

"It was a lop-sided mess - nothing like I thought it would be like. The only reason she gave a refund now was because of the viral post.

"The cake sat here for three days and she didn't come and get it. When Dennis took the cake out and my grandson held the bin liner out, it hit the floor like a brick. It was so heavy - there was no way anybody could have eaten that cake.

"I didn't even taste it. I was too angry. I didn't want anything to do with it."

Thankfully though, the rest of the wedding didn't go quite so pear-shaped.

Rena said: "Overall, after I went and got the cake and that taken care of, the day was really good."
