Sausages are up there with TimTams, Lamingtons, Vegemite and fairy bread as some of the most Aussie things you can stick in your gob.

You've got your stock standard ones that you can pick up from any supermarket and then you've got your artisanal ones. These ones that are filled with a bunch of interesting ingredients to make your tastebuds come alive.

But of course we can't claim sausages as our own, as many other countries produce fine snags.

However, the one thing we can claim is that an Australian-made sausage has been voted the best in the goddamn world.

Take that Austria, take that Germany, take that Spain, take that Italy - you're all second-class compared to the creation concocted by The Australian Steelers who won at the World Butchers Challenge in Belfast.

The team's captain Adam Stratton, who's the co-owner of the Tender Gourmet Butchery, told Food Service News: "What exactly we put into our world beating sausages...well, that will always remain a mystery. I'm like Colonel Sanders with his 11 secret herbs and spices.

"This team has worked incredibly well on every element of the competition and we're just so delighted it's paid off.

"We're so glad the judges recognised our efforts and I'm so grateful our team got this recognition."

They won for their 'Pork Truffle and Provolone Cheese' snag that can be picked up for abut $10.50 a kilo in select butchers in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Cairns.

The World Butchers Challenge wrote on it's website: "Not ones to be outdone when it comes to presentation and creative flair, this talented team of six brought a whole new level to the competition when it came to producing a world-class display that rivalled all others.

"The individual members who make up the Australian Steelers brought a wealth of knowledge and experience to the competition with five of the six members having competed in the World Butchers' Challenge numerous times with Captain, Adam Stratton at the helm of the team since the competition's inception in 2011."

Bloody decent win for the lads as you can imagine they would have been up against some pretty stiff competition from people from all over the world.

So the next time someone tries to give you a bit of stick about Aussie sausages being bland, just show them this.
