Wendy’s is heading Down Under as there are plans to build 200 stores of the iconic fast food chain across the country.

These square patties will soon hit Australian shores after the American fast-food giant signed a deal with Pizza Hut operator Flynn Restaurant Group to open hundreds of stores over the next 10 years.

Wendy’s is one of the most popular fast food chains in the US, right behind McDonald's and Burger King.

The company’s international president, Abigail Pringle, said Wendy’s was ready to expand after a successful pop-up in Sydney in 2021.

“Flynn Restaurant Group has incredible experience in the restaurant space, and we are thrilled to expand our relationship with them,” she said, as per The Australian Financial Review.

“They have a strong leadership team, great culture, vast industry knowledge, success with our brand in the US.”

Sorry, Hungry Jacks.

“I’m focused on the customer. And we’re focused on delivering on a great brand experience. I’d love to invite Jack to Wendy’s when we launch and maybe he can really experience for the first time a fresh, never frozen Wendy’s hamburger,” she continued.

An expansion of Wendy’s in Australia failed in 1982; however, Pringle said the operating environment has since changed, leading them to formalise a deal again.

She added that the agreement would see the opening of '200 restaurants across the country through 2034 through a combination of equity stores and sub-franchise partners'.

News that the American fast food chain would be coming to Australia had the internet buzzing.

One Facebook user wrote: “Oh wow, how exciting. I nearly pee'd my pants when I read this.”

Another said: “Oh yeah baby, get in daddy's arteries haha.”

A third commented: “Very good now we also need to bring White Castle here in Australia.”

While another noted: “Let’s hope the burgers are bigger than the current lot from other sources.”

Wendy’s opened its first store in Columbus, Ohio, in 1969.

The company experienced rapid expansion across the US after the quick-service chain developed a reputation for its tasty square beef patties and iconic desserts.

According to ScrapeHero, there are 5,996 Wendy's restaurants in the US today.

The Australian Financial Review reported that the average gross annual sales for a franchised Wendy’s was $US1.75 (AUD $2.7 million) in 2020.
