How to have two months off work in 2025 only using 27 days annual leave

Now that 2024 is essentially done with and 2025 is on the horizon, let’s get into the little-known secret you can use to your advantage to get two whole months off work (and it’s totally legal).

Okay, so we all know that this year has disappeared like The Avengers when faced with a snap of the fingers from Thanos, and it’s maddening.

However, it’s time to start anew, people.

2025 is here to rejuvenate the absolute sh*t show that has been the current year we have all faced in the UK and beyond, and it can only get better from here.

Anyway, the end of times isn’t here just yet, so you’ve got plenty of time to think about your annual leave for next year.

Even though the weather is naff (as per) and it doesn’t seem like there’s much point in trying to book off a long holiday until you know what’s going on closer to the time, just trust me.

You’re going to want to take this advice, and preferably before your colleagues also read this article and figure it out too.

Anyway, to make sure that you stay on top of the holiday scramble next year, we’ve got the best thing you can do to ensure that you’re getting the time off that you deserve.

In fact, you’re going to get off a whole lot more time than the holiday days you’re using.

Now, if you are wondering about whether or not you should ration them or bulk book, don’t think about it anymore. You can book two whole months off work next year, using only 27 days of your leave.

Travel booking company Omio explained the perfect way you can maximise your annual days off to make sure that you’re away from the office for 60 days.

So, here’s how you can do it.

Basically, you’re going to manipulate the system to your advantage and by system, I mean the bank hols.

You’ve got Easter’s Good Friday off work on 18 April (well, most people do) and then you’ll have that nice long weekend with Easter Monday (21st April) off too.

So, if you book four days off on either side, you’ll end up with a whopping 17 days off (counting in all those weekends between), using a measly eight days of annual leave.

Do you see how ingenious this is? But there’s more.

In May, you’ve got bank holidays on 5 May (a Monday) and 26 May (another Monday), so again, if you take four days off after each, you’ll get nine days of holiday for each booking.

In August, your Monday bank holiday on the 25th can give you another nine days off if you do the whole four day booking off thing again. Then, consider your Christmas time off.

You’ve got bank holidays on the 25th and 26th of December as well as the 1st of January. All you have to do is book like this, and you’ll have 16 days off.

Book: The 22nd, 23rd, 24th, 29th, 30th, 31st and 2nd January to enjoy the festive time to eat, drink, dance and nurse your hangover in peace.

Now that you’ve got your plan set, enjoy beating the system in 2025.
