Woman ended marriage after reading husband's 'SWMBO' nickname for her in texts

She felt like the nickname was a 'slap in the face'

One man left his marriage in tatters after his savage nickname for his wife was exposed.

From cheating to financial woes, there can be several things lurking over a couple’s shoulders which could spell separation in the future.

Maybe she flirts around, or he refuses to help with the house work and childcare.

But one woman went out with a bang after finding out that her hubby had a cruel nickname for her when chatting to his mates.

Now, it’s nothing to do with how she looks, however this could be worse.

Sharing the story to Mamamia, the unnamed woman told the forum that there had been some issues between her and her husband over what she felt was a lack of respect.

"From the moment our son was born, nothing changed for my husband," she said. "He absolutely hated telling me what his plans were.

"Would he be home in time for dinner? Could I book a haircut on a Saturday morning? Was he having drinks with his mates straight from work?

"Who knew – because he certainly refused to tell me. He claimed he didn’t have to.

"It was a weird shift in our marriage that I hadn’t expected – this stubborn reluctance to tell us when he was going to participate in our lives."

But things between them shifted forever when she heard his phone constantly go off after he returned home from a night out with the lads.

So, while he was in the shower, she decided to have a look, and found a group chat with his friends.

They were trying to organise some drinks, but he replied that he probably couldn’t attend as 'SWMBO will say no'.

She wrote: "He wasn’t mad I’d looked at his phone. He was totally unmoved by having to explain the message to me. 'It means She Who Must Be Obeyed', he said, casually.

"I felt like I’d been slapped in the face."

The woman went on: "It wasn't a matter of 'obeying' me ... It's not called 'asking permission' like he's a teenager and I'm his mother.

"It's called respect for your family. After five years of marriage, this is what I'd become to him."

She said that after reading his nickname there was 'no coming back from that', and that their marriage had to end.

"To me, I didn’t have a choice," she concluded her post. "Staying with a man who valued us so little wasn’t an option.

"I took my baby and I left my husband the next week."
