A woman who became a meme after a funny snap of her looking very out of place while surrounded by blokes at a BDSM fair reckons the whole thing is hilarious.

Amruta Godbole went along to San Francisco's Folsom Street Fair, a BDSM and leather event, with some pals in 2017 when a friend decided to take a photo from above, resulting in the rather brilliant shot.

Amruta's photo has gone viral several times over the years, most recently when it was shared on Twitter alongside the tongue-in-cheek caption: "Olivia Rodrigo with her new fans."

Responding to the tweet Amruta said:

In a recent interview with Buzzfeed, Amruta, 35, explained: "One of my main groups of friends in San Francisco is a group of gay men, so I have often found myself in situations where I'm the one woman amid all of these gay men.

"I'm also 5'1, and they're all very tall and muscular, so I was just so clearly standing out."

Amruta went on to say that as soon as the photo was taken people warned her that she was 'going to be famous' when the picture ended up online - and they weren't wrong, as Amruta says she goes viral 'about monthly'.

In a tweet, Amruta explained: "A friend took a photo of me at Folsom Street Fair a couple years ago, posted to IG, it somehow went viral, and now it's a meme! (Comes up about monthly, in various languages, across the internet.) A fun 'fun fact'!"

But luckily Amruta sees the funny side and is happy for her photo to be shared.

Amruta, who is a corporate lawyer, also gets a kick out of people coming across the photo and reaching out to ask if it's her.

She added: "People send it to me and say, 'Is this you? What is happening here?'"

"When I was previously working at a big corporate law firm, that was very stodgy and old school, a colleague sent me a text exchange between him and a colleague asking if it was me, so it's a funny thing for people who know me in the context of being a serious lawyer."
