Chilling final words of pilot on Flight 19 before plane got lost in the Bermuda Triangle

14 people went missing when five planes vanished in the Bermuda Triangle

What exactly is going on with the Bermuda Triangle?

It has this legend of being a place where planes and ships disappear without a trace, as though they simply slipped out of existence and took all on board with them.

There are plenty of conspiracy theories around the triangle, including claims that it's all because of aliens, but it might be time to face the reality that accidents happen and we can't always explain it.

Or maybe that's just what they want you to think, perhaps the Bermuda Triangle is littered with the ghosts of vessels and vehicles which ventured into the danger zone and never came back out again.

There's a plethora of notorious tales which warn of what has happened to planes and ships that ventured into the triangle and never came back out again.

One of the most infamous stories is that of Flight 19, where in December 1945 five torpedo bombers took off from Fort Lauderdale, Florida as part of a training flight.

This was after the end of the Second World War, and the five planes were going to practice launching bombing runs on a sunken ship in the Bahamas.

Radio conversations from the planes were picked up and indicated that the five plane mission seemed to have become lost.

Attempts to help them get their bearings failed as the pilots could not see and land or anything to navigate by.

The last transmission from Flight 19 went: "We can’t tell where we are… everything is… can’t make out anything. We think we may be about 225 miles northeast of base...

“It looks like we are entering white water… We’re completely lost."

After that, there was nothing but silence.

To compound the tragedy, when a massive search and rescue effort was launched that added another 13 lives to the death toll.

Among the planes searching for Flight 19 was Martin PBM Mariner flying boat, and it too went missing with all on board.

That catastrophe may be easier to explain, as the tanker SS Gaines Mills had reported flames from an explosion, and it is believed that the flying boat exploded in mid-air.

There are attempt to find scientific explanations for what happened in the Bermuda Triangle, with experts saying that the geography of the place disturbs compasses and instruments.

In essence, it's a place where there's a good chance of getting lost, and getting lost can mean potentially dying.
