Adele has confirmed what she actually said before Rihanna's Super Bowl halftime performance - a clip which turned the singer into a meme overnight.

The singer went viral as she watched on at the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, with many fans speculating about what exactly she was saying.

Adele has since addressed the clip and clarified what she was going on about:

Speaking to the audience during a recent Las Vegas residency show, the 34-year-old said: "I've gotta tell you … It's hard work being a constant meme.

"I don't know what it is about my f***ing face. Every time I step out my house… Maybe it's because I don't have Botox or anything, my face just moves so much - I don't know what it is.

"Everyone was texting me a meme of myself looking — I don't know what I looked like."

On social media, some lip-reading observers concluded that Adele was saying that Rihanna would smoke some weed and be good to go, as well as being 'fab', and it turns out they were bang on.

"I was saying she's gonna be fine, she's gonna have some weed and be fine," Adele confirmed. "But clearly she couldn't have any weed because she was pregnant!"

Rihanna chose the biggest stage possible to announce that she is expecting her second child, before rattling through a raft of her greatest hits during the much-anticipated performance. It was her first in seven years, and the headlines were sealed within seconds.

The singer - who is 35 today - kicked off the show suspended high above the stadium dressed all in red, and with a knowing look to the camera, she opened her jacket and stroked her pronounced stomach, with many fans quickly speculating that this was a pregnancy announcement.

Sure enough, the news was later confirmed by her representative and social media was full of praise for the singer.

One person wrote: "I don't think @rihanna understands the level of excitement she brought to everyone that loves her and her music.

"She sang classics that made us go way back. Danced and sang while pregnant. Epic!"

Another said: "Rihanna just gave us one of the most visually stunning performances of all time, IN THE SKY WHILE PREGNANT"

A third added: "Rihanna giving this amazing beautiful performance while pregnant at the halftime show for the Super Bowl is just amazinggg."

Even Piers Morgan shared some kind words, tweeting: "Rihanna⁩ IS pregnant, her aides have confirmed. So she did that half-time show while carrying a baby which is pretty damn impressive. Congrats."
