The selection prompted a lot of debate, because obviously the entire human race is never going to unanimously agree on the number one sexiest living male.
One such person who appears to dispute the selection is rapper Snoop Dogg, who seemingly thinks he would make a better candidate.
The 48-year-old shared a mock PEOPLE 'Sexiest Man Alive' cover on Instagram with himself as the main man, captioning the tongue in cheek post: "Thank. You."
Bravo Snoop, bravo.
Here's how the real deal looked, FYI:
Following the announcement of Legend as the very best looking male human alive on this planet in 2019, the 40-year-old admitted that the title was a little daunting.
Speaking to PEOPLE, he said: "I was excited, but I was a little scared at the same time because it's a lot of pressure.
"Everyone's going to be picking me apart to see if I'm sexy enough to hold this title. I'm [also] following Idris Elba, which is not fair and is not nice to me!"
Humble as ever, Legend also shared a snap of himself from 1995 alongside last year's winner Elba and expressed how 'perplexed' the young him would have been by the whole situation.
1995 John would be very perplexed to be following 2018 @IdrisElba as #SexiestManAlive. Hell, 2019 John is about as equally perplexed but thank you @People for finding me sexy. I'll take it pic.twitter.com/Gw1la5Ebv4

Legend's wife, Chrissy Teigen, subsequently leapt to her husband's defence and challenged Elba to post a photo of himself from 1995 - though that didn't really do her hubby any favours.
It seems Teigen isn't really a***d though if Legend ain't quite as sexy as Elba, because the fact of the matter is, she has achieved her 'dream' in life.
She tweeted: "My secret is out. I have fulfilled my dream of having boned @people's sexiest man alive!! an honor!!!!!"
Meanwhile, the rest of us mudbloods are going to have to keep on dreaming of being/boning the sexiest man alive.
