Alan Carr's side-spitting NTA comeback after being left in tears by Paloma Faith and Amanda Holden serenade
Alan Carr had an hilarious comeback after being left emotional when he was surprised with the special recognition award at tonight’s National Television Awards.
Prior to picking up the gong, Carr - and the rest of the audience - was treated to a dramatic performance from Amanda Holden, Paloma Faith, Kate Garraway, Charlotte Church and David Olusoga.
Faith was carried on the stage in a black coffin, seemingly as a nod to their time on The Traitors together.
In a video tribute, his Traitors co-star said: “Despite the wickedness, despite the cruelty of the man, it’s very hard not to love him.”

Host Claudia Winkleman added: “He’s delicious, isn’t he? I’d like him on a cracker.”
After realising that the performance was for him, Carr appeared to become emotional and could be seen with tears in his eyes.
Heading up on stage, he admitted that he had no clue he was going to recognised at tonight’s ceremony and made a cheeky quip about where he’s usually seated at these sort of glitzy bashes.
This is how thick I am, it was only when Paloma came out that I realised it’s me,” he said.
“I should have realised when they put me in the front row, I’m usually in the back with the people from Naked Attraction.”
Carr’s ruthless antics left viewers shocked during his time on The Celebrity Traitors.
The 50-year-old funnyman is known for his OTT personality but fans got to see a very different side to him when he killed off his real-life pal Faith on the very first episode of the show.
Speaking on the after-show podcast The Celebrity Traitors: Uncloaked, Faith had said of Carr killing her: “I don’t think it was very nice.”
She went on to add: “If the shoe was on the other foot, I would not have touched Alan’s face. Categorically, he had a choice – maybe it was the easiest option, but it was the choice he made and I don’t think it was very nice
“I still maintain to this day that if the shoe was on the other foot, I wouldn’t have done that. So I don’t think he should have done it to me and I’m surprised that he did.”
There were even rumours of a rift between the pair after he bumped her off so soon into the game.
However, co-star Kate Garraway quickly put those rumours to bed during an appearance on Heart Breakfast with Amanda Holden shortly after the episode aired.
When asked about the supposed feud between the pair by Jamie Theakston, Holden said it had been ‘blown out of proportion’, with Garraway adding: “It’s a game! Alan hasn’t said anything about Paloma to me, and Paloma hasn’t about Alan.
“I think it was pretty shocking, it was indeed flabbergasting even though Tom thought it was ridiculous to be flabbergasted, but to see her in that coffin when the lid slammed down was really shocking… So, I think it was extreme, and it got intense, but yeah!”
