Amber Heard confirms new career update as she begins new 'era' after Johnny Depp trial

The Aquaman star's last acting gigs were in 2023

Fans ought to urge Amber Heard to 'break a leg' amid her latest career update.

The Texas-born star, 39, has largely stayed out of the spotlight over the last few years following her court battle with ex-husband Johnny Depp.

In wake of her very public defeat in the $50 million defamation case back in 2022, Heard ditched Hollywood for the Spanish capital of Madrid - and even reportedly changed her name to 'fully integrate' herself into the community.

She then revealed that she had welcomed twins in a social media post shared in May this year, announcing that she was now a mother to a little boy and girl as well as her four-year-old, Oonagh Paige.

So, we've seen the odd snippet of Heard's new life here and there since the trial against Depp wrapped up, however, she's not popped up on our screens in what feels like yonks.

Her last acting gigs were in 2023, when she took the lead in Conor Allyn's thriller In The Fire and also reprised her role as Mera in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

But Heard has been on something of a hiatus from the entertainment world ever since then - that is, until now.

The London Fields star announced she is now officially entering a new 'era' after the hectic few years which she has endured.

In an Instagram post shared on Monday, Heard confirmed her casting in Jeremy O. Harris' new play, Spirit of the People, by sharing a selfie with the Tony Award-nominated playwright.

She was seen sticking her tongue out and grinning in the snap, which she posted alongside the caption: "In my theatre era."

Heard will star alongside Brandon Flynn and Lío Mehiel in the production, which is set to premiere at the 2025 Williamstown Theatre Festival in Massachusetts next month.

Spirit of the People 'confronts uncomfortable truths about land and what it means to destroy it', according to the official synopsis.

Harris revealed that the play is 'half in Spanish', even though he doesn't speak the language - but given that Heard has resided in Madrid for a while now, she's probably at least semi-fluent in the lingo.

"I wanted to challenge myself," Harris told Variety. "The play is half in Spanish, and I don’t speak Spanish.

"The play has a significant level of prose within it," he added. "I’m not a prose writer. I’m trying a lot of different things."

Fans of Heard seem to be looking forward to seeing her take to the stage, as one person wrote in a post on X in wake of her career announcement: "Amber Heard getting casted in a play and posting again. The world is healing."

Another said of the selfie of her and Harris: "This photo just added 10 years onto my life."

A third added: "I’m so proud of her. Oh my God, I’m so happy…She’s back in business, she’s back!"

And a fourth wrote: "Amber Heard is slowly but surely getting her life back."

In a bombshell new interview, the actress's former husband Depp revealed why he decided to take her to court three years ago while describing himself as a ‘crash test dummy’ for the MeToo movement.
