Armie Hammer has spoken out about why he quit Instagram in a new interview where he also revealed he shut down his own podcast because it was ‘hurting’ his career.
The celebrity has been slowly returning to the public eye in the last year following a 2021 scandal in which he was accused of sexual and emotional abuse.
This included texts in which he claimed he was ‘100% a cannibal’ which he later claimed was him ‘joking’ whilst drunk.
Hammer's abuse allegations also alleged that he had branded the letter ‘A’ on a partner, something he later claimed was ‘more like a scrape’. After the allegations came to light Hammer attended a rehab facility for drug, alcohol, and sex issues, issues which he referenced when explaining why he quit Instagram.
Hammer deleted his Instagram despite it having over one million followers

Speaking to the Punk Rock Sober and Painful Lessons podcast, Hammer explained that he is no longer on Instagram, having deleted his account when he had more than a million followers.
Hammer said on the podcast that the thing he thinks about is not losing a million followers, but how much ‘sweet sweet goodness’ would still be in Instagram DM inbox if it was active.
The actor said his DMs were a ‘dark place’, adding: “It’s dark for me, it is just pure filth in there.”
When explaining what he means by ‘filth’, the actual reason he called his DMs a dark place is absolutely bizarre.
Hammer claimed he was sent ‘hundreds’ of sexual videos a day by random people
The cancelled celebrity stated he had tried simply deactivating his account but deleted it because he would always be tempted to reactivate his account.
He said: “[He’d be sent] hundreds of videos a day of complete strangers sending me unsolicited videos of them doing any number of everything from sexy to bizarre sexual acts. All the time.
“I did not have the willpower to withstand that. I couldn't do it. Like it would just be constant.”

He continued adding that it ‘was constantly some of the most beautiful women in the world like sticking things in their butts’.
Hammer went on to make the crude statement that ‘women choose to have sex, men have sex when they are offered it’.
The cancelled actor said he stopped hosting his podcast due to effect it was having on his career

Speaking about his former podcast, The ArmieHammertime Podcast, he said: “I loved my podcast intensely… someone in my life who works in the entertainment industry I had a conversation with and I was like ‘what do you think this is actually doing for my career… do you think this helps [my acting career]’.”
Hammer stated that his friend came back a few days later and told him ‘I don’t think this is helping you get back into acting and unfortunately I don’t think it’s even neutral, this is working against you’.
He stated that this was partially because it meant that people don’t ‘miss’ the actor in his absence, and his openness in talking about drugs was a turn off for casting directors.
