Armie Hammer has made his film comeback after five years where he was ‘cancelled’ and did not work following allegations of abuse made by an ex-girlfriend.
In 2021 leaked text messages saw him say that he was ‘100% a cannibal’ and accused him of having carved the letter A into his ex-partner’s skin.
Hammer disappeared from the spotlight, quitting social media and even moving to the Cayman Island.
Now he is returning for a comeback film, but it does not appear to be going to plan so far. Early reviews for Hammer’s film, called Citizen Vigilante, have been cataclysmically bad, with it being deemed the ‘worst movie of all time’ in one review’, and the movie has been banned for millions.
The film is ‘morally bankrupt’ and one reviewer said it might be the ‘worst movie of all time’

When you hear the plot of Citizen Vigilante, and that it is directed by Uwe Boll, it makes sense that the movie isn’t being particularly well received.
Hammer plays Sanders, an American businessman living in Croatia becomes a vigilante targeting ‘violent criminals, rapists, and corrupt judges’.
In the film however the violent criminals and rapists are all migrants, creating an uncomfortable dynamic in which Hammer’s character essentially goes on a killing rampage of migrants.
Variety called the movie ‘morally bankrupt’ in their review, calling the director Boll a ‘cinematic embarrassment’ and adding: “The film is so astonishingly bad, it almost feels like the writer-director-producer is deliberately sabotaging his star Armie Hammer, whose intended comeback can only be harmed by this project.”
One reviewer on Reddit said: “I know ‘the worst movie of all time’ gets banded around way too often, but Citizen Vigilante might genuinely be a contender.
“This is a 90 minute call to violence for Europeans against migrants disguised as a ‘movie’.
“I'm astounded this has been made and Armie Hammer's ‘comeback’ is over before it even began.”
Citizen Vigilante was reportedly ‘banned’ in Germany for its offensive plot
Uwe Boll has claimed the film was ‘banned’ in Germany, telling the Daily Telegraph: “The rating system [in Germany] refused to give us a rating, so now you can only watch it if you bring in a Blu-ray from Austria or Switzerland.
“I think they did that on purpose. It was a deliberate censorship decision. I hired a lawyer to complain about it, but we lost in a six-two vote, as I was told that the film was inciting violence against migrants.”

An unrated film often is unable to be shown in any major cinema chains.
He continued, explaining why he cast Armie Hammer, adding: “I cast Armie Hammer in the lead because he’s a great actor, and also because he was cancelled and wanted to work.
“He wasn’t charged with anything, there was no lawsuit. He was just a guy who was famous and f*ck around. He’s a handsome, charismatic guy, who could be James Bond. In fact, he’d be perfect for the part.”
