Legendary singer Bonnie Tyler is awake but remains 'seriously ill', weeks after being placed in an induced coma in Portugal.
On 6 May, it was announced that the singer, who is best known for her hits 'Total Eclipse Of The Heart' and 'Holding Out For A Hero', had been placed in an induced coma in the southern city of Faro due to complications from an abdominal operation.
The singer later went into cardiac arrest after doctors first tried to bring her out of the coma a few weeks ago.
Now (15 June), a representative for the 75-year-old has provided an update on her health, confirming that Tyler is awake but remains 'seriously ill'.

"Bonnie is no longer in a coma, but remains seriously ill," a representative for Tyler told The Sun.

"Although her condition is improving, it is a slow process. Her doctors remain confident that she will make a good recovery, but it is going to take time."
She is said to remain in intensive care, with Portuguese outlet The Resident stating that her family have asked for continued privacy, adding that updates will be issued when there are developments.
Tyler began to experience abdominal pain back in April, and was later rushed to hospital in southern Portugal, where she has owned a home since 1988, to undergo emergency intestinal surgery.
However, she began to experience complications following what is reported to be a serious infection, and was placed into a coma. When doctors tried to bring her out of the coma a few weeks ago, she suffered a cardiac arrest.
Meanwhile, her management has shared a statement thanking fans around the world for their support and well-wishes, writing: "We would like to thank everyone for the tremendous sympathy and support from around the world."

Tyler, who represented the UK at Eurovision in 2013, was scheduled to head out on tour later this year, however The Sun is now reporting that all of her concerts up until the end of August have been cancelled in order for her to recover. She was previously scheduled to perform in Malta and Germany, and her upcoming tour also included shows across the UK, as well as in Austria, Hungary, Turkey and Romania.
The singer had released her 18th album, titled The Best Is Yet To Come, in 2021.
Her team have also urged people not to believe false reports and speculation circulating online, releasing the following statement on her website: "I thought it’d be good to write a little reminder not to trust random pages on social media which are sharing (often AI-generated) photos and false stories about what’s been happening. Bonnie remains in Portugal which is the best place for her at the moment as her care continues.
Hope everyone is doing ok – it’s a difficult time. I’m taking comfort in the fact that so many people have written in wishing her well and saying they’d been in similar situations. It seems like it’s the kind of thing that can take a good long while, so patience will be key.
The last official statement ended with: 'When there is any further news of Bonnie’s condition then we will issue another statement but ask that the media cease to speculate or publish wild rumours, which simply serve to upset her family, friends, and many fans, and ask again for privacy and decency at this difficult time.'"
