It has been revealed whether Brooklyn Beckham has ever actually been at real risk of legally being stopped from using his surname, following his claims about 'signing' his rights away.
The 26-year-old made headlines on Monday by posting an extremely long statement about his family and how his parents allegedly 'controlled' his life. The number of shocking claims included in his statement centred primarily around his family's attempt to 'ruin' his relationship with his wife Nicola Peltz.
It has long been theorised that a Beckham family feud was brewing, with Brooklyn apparently blocking his family members online, though he claimed that it was really the other way around.
But one claim he made was about parents David and Victoria, and their apparent attempts to make him sign the rights to the Beckham name, away.

Brooklyn, who hasn't attended any Beckham family functions in over a year, said in his statement: "Weeks before our big day, my parents repeatedly pressured and attempted to bribe me into signing away the rights to my name, which would have affected me, my wife, and our future children."
It's arguably is the biggest claim, and one that would have been the most costly if they were successful, as he claimed the family dynamic changed forever after his mum and dad asked that he sign the rights to his surname away.
Noting that it was right before his wedding to Peltz in 2022, he said: “They were adamant on me signing before my wedding date because then the terms of the deal would be initiated. My holdout affected the payday, and they have never treated me the same since.”
A legal expert has now explained that signing your name away doesn't mean that you lose your identity, but instead the financial benefits that come with it.
Beyond Corporate’s Head of Commercial Law, James Corlett, explained: "David and Victoria Beckham could not have prevented Brooklyn from using his name as his personal identity. Under UK law, individuals have strong rights to use their own name, regardless of how commercially valuable a family surname may be.
"However, the legal picture changes when trademarks are involved. DB Ventures Limited owns registered trademarks for ‘BECKHAM’ across clothing, fragrances, and other merchandise, and has built significant commercial goodwill around that brand."

Corlett added: "Those trademark rights mean the company could legitimately prevent Brooklyn from using ‘Beckham’ as a standalone commercial brand in ways that conflict with existing registrations. But without a signed agreement assigning or limiting his rights, that control goes no further."
He said that essentially, 'the Beckhams may own the brand – but they do not own their son’s name'.
The agreement would have solely transferred or restricted the commercial rights to his name, which would have had a financial effect on both him and his future family, prior to the wedding.
As for the wedding itself, Brooklyn said that he felt 'humiliated' after claiming that mum Victoria did an 'inappropriate' dance on him in front of guests, when it was meant to be his first dance.

Aug 2022: The first reports of a feud between Nicola and Victoria Beckham
Just months after the wedding, media sources were starting to report on a 'full-on cold war' between Nicola and her new mum-in-law.
According to Page Six, 'the build-up to the wedding was horrendous' and they 'can’t stand each other and don’t talk'.
Reports also claimed much of the feud came from Nicola's decision to wear a Valentino wedding dress instead of a piece designed by Victoria's fashion house, but they appeared to quash these rumours.
March 2023: The Beckhams play happy families
In March 2023, the Beckhams seemed to be happier than ever and were posing for photos at Victoria's Paris fashion show.
April 2025: The family rift resurfaces
Two years on, it was reported that Brooklyn and Nicola had snubbed David's 50th birthday party at Cipriani Downtown Miami.
And then, just days later, TMZ claimed that Brooklyn and brother Romeo weren't speaking due to a fallout over Romeo's girlfriend, Kim Turnbull, who had a 'romantic connection' with Brooklyn 'several years ago'.
Cruz later insisted that Brooklyn and Kim had never actually dated, and in May of 2025, Brooklyn and Nicola were nowhere to be seen as the birthday celebrations for David continued.
July 2025: Mass unfollowing on social media
In July 2025, Brooklyn and Nicola unfollowed Romeo and Cruz and vice versa.
August 2025: David and Victoria miss vow renewals
The following month, David and Victoria are reported not to have attended the Peltz-Beckham vow renewals.
And by December that year, it was reported that Brooklyn no longer followed his parents, and they no longer followed him, and the youngest brother was quick to set the record straight.
Dec 2025: Cruz speaks out
Cruz wrote on his Instagram Stories about the claims that he and his family had unfollowed Brooklyn: "NOT TRUE. My mum and dad would never unfollow their son … Let's get the facts right. They woke up blocked … as did I."
Jan 2026: Brooklyn takes legal action
In January 2026, it was claimed that Brooklyn sent a legal letter to his parents, insisting they only contact him via his lawyer; a rule which Victoria is believed to have broken when she 'liked' an Instagram post he made about a roast chicken.
Jan 2026: Brooklyn breaks silence on family feud
In a shock statement posted on his Instagram Stories on 19 January, Brooklyn made some bombshell claims about his family, which included how his parents have tried to 'ruin' his relationship with Nicola, have always 'controlled' his life, and how 'Brand Beckham' comes first before anything else.
