Logan Paul appears on TV wearing world’s rarest Pokémon card worth $5.3 million

The card has earned him a Guinness World Record

Many celebrities invest in companies, projects or stocks, but influencer Logan Paul has opted for a less traditional route to maximise his earnings.

The 30-year-old, who rose to fame on YouTube, splashed out $5.3 million (£3.9m) on a rare Pokémon card, which he claims is an investment he'll make back when the card goes up for auction next year.

Appearing on The Big Money Show, Paul wore the PSA Grade 9 Pikachu Illustrator card on a chain round his neck and spoke about the benefits of non-traditional investments.

He argued that collectibles have 'outperformed' the stock market in the last two decades and urged young people to take notice, as nontraditional assets could be a better investment that the stock market or properties.

"If you have the money, don't be afraid to take a risk, especially if you're young," the YouTuber-turned-entrepreneur said.

"There are ways to spend and invest your money in ways that might mean more to you than the traditional conservative investment like the stock market," he said, adding that cards, sports memorabilia and certain luxury goods are examples of these types of investments.

He did warn potential investors that not all collectibles hold their value long term and caution should be taken when deciding what to buy, as he only looks at purchasing 'the best of the best' and items with very limited supply.

The PSA Grade 9 Pikachu Illustrator card became the most expensive Pokémon card ever sold when purchased by Paul in 2022, earning him a Guinness World Record.

He has had the card made into a wearable necklace, adding a $75,000 (£55k) chain to it, featuring a diamond Pokémon ball.

Explaining how the card carries the highest possible PSA grade, the influencer also added: "Being the rarest, most valuable card in the world, there’s only one of them."

While he outlined his plans to put the card up for auction in 2026, Paul would not disclose the value he was hoping to achieve at the sale.

Any profit will add to Paul's current net worth of $150 million (£111m) nicely.

Having first found fame on YouTube, along with his brother Jake Paul, the 30-year-old has since capitalised on his audience reach, branching out into podcasting and influencing.

He co-founded the energy drink brand Prime with fellow YouTuber KSI and is signed to WWE, where he has become a member of The Vision stable and once won the franchise’s United States Championship.
