Dave Franco has addressed claims of him riding his brother's coattails during his career and it's fair to say that he's not pleased with the suggestion.
Known for his roles in Now You See Me, 21 Jump Street and Neighbors, Franco has starred in a number of memorable titles over the years, but there is the odd whisper that he was given a shoo-in because of the success of his controversial brother.
James Franco has been in the news for all the wrong reasons in recent years, claiming that he has been 'cast out' of Hollywood following accusations of sexual misconduct in 2018.
The elder brother has spoken about his broken relationship with Seth Rogen, with the pair being an iconic duos in comedy films throughout the 2000s and 2010s such as Pineapple Express and The Interview.

James burst into the industry with his role in Freaks and Geeks at the turn of the millennium, while Dave only got his film debut years later as Greg in Superbad (the guy who wet his pants).

But despite his brother's sustained success, Dave pointed out that while his brother looked for an agent to help with his budding acting career, 'no-one was going to hire me just because I was James Franco’s little brother'.
He further pointed out to Bustle: "If I sucked, I would’ve disappeared very quickly."
The brothers have also starred in a number of films such as Milk, The Broken Tower and Zeroville, before The Disaster Artist - which James directed and they both starred in leading roles.

But since the controversy surrounding James, the pair have been on separate paths when it comes to the films they've starred in, as Dave has featured in a number of titles while the former only has four acting credits since 2020 after being accused of sexually inappropriate behaviour by five women, two of whom he settled with out of court.

Nowadays, Dave collaborates with his brother's old partner in crime, Rogen, with the pair starring in 2025 TV series The Studio.
While James may not speak to Rogen anymore, Dave previously said that his brother still follows his career: "At this point, I think he’s excited just to see me trying new things and to see me grow."
Dave Franco recently starred in Regretting You, and will be centre stage once again in November when the third instalment of the franchise, Now You See Me: Now You Don't , is released in cinema.
