Singer who has been celibate for nine months explains impact it has had on her life

A singer who has stepped away from sex and dating for the past nine months has opened up about the impact it has had on her.

You might remember Diana Vickers from The X Factor back in 2008 - she didn't win, but a couple of years later she did manage to get her debut album Songs from the Tainted Cherry Tree to number one in the charts when it was released.

Many years on from that, she's been speaking to The Sun about how she got worn out with dating after 'really trying' it for much of last year before hitting a breaking point in November.

Anyone who's been single for a while and has put a lot of work into trying to find a relationship without success will be able to sympathise with how dating can wear you down over time until you think 'f**k this' for a while.

Vickers said she reached the point where she thought: "You know what? No. I can’t do this any more."

The singer explained that she'd spent the previous Christmas 'crying about someone I was dating and finding it really quite an emotional struggle', so she decided to make a decision based off her mood.

As such, she thought it was high time to press the pause button on her dating life, with the singer explaining that it's resulted in 'nine months of celibacy'.

Vickers, who is also the host of the Just Between Us podcast, said the nine months of celibacy has allowed her to 'focus on me and my work', and says it's given her one of the best years her career has ever had.

She also said even if she had been celibate for the past nine months, she was still 'having the best sex with myself' as she told her podcast she was 'having a really good time with myself at the moment' and finding it all 'really liberating'.

Vickers isn't the only one to give flying solo a go, as fellow singer Tulisa admitted on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! that she had been celibate for several years.

The celebrities had been chatting about their sex lives and being single at camp when Dean McCullough said he enjoyed being on his own.

Tulisa then said she'd used a dating app called Raya and she reckons she's demisexual, which is where you need a strong bond with a person to start feeling attraction for them.

It takes all kinds to make a world.
