Ed Sheeran has given a positive update about his wife Cherry's cancer journey, after doctors discovered a tumour in her arm when she was six months pregnant.

Back in 2022, while pregnant with their second child, Jupiter, Cherry was given the heartbreaking news and told she wouldn't be able to have treatment until after she had given birth.

The singer opened up about the grief back in 2023 ahead of his album, Subtract, explaining that much of his suffering had inspired the collection of work.

Sheeran wrote on Instagram: "I had been working on Subtract for a decade, trying to sculpt the perfect acoustic album, writing and recording hundreds of songs with a clear vision of what I thought it should be.

"Then at the start of 2022, a series of events changed my life, my mental health, and ultimately the way I viewed music and art."

He recalled: "Within the space of a month, my pregnant wife got told she had a tumour, with no route to treatment until after the birth.

"My best friend Jamal, a brother to me, died suddenly and I found myself standing in court defending my integrity and career as a songwriter. I was spiralling through fear, depression and anxiety."

A few years on and Sheeran has reflected on that time and given an update on Cherry's health.

Speaking to Benny Blanco, Lil Dicky and Kristin Batalucco on an episode of the Friends Keep Secrets podcast, he said: "The day Cherry rung me up and said that she had cancer, that was probably one of the worst days.

"That was probably the worst week because Jamal died that week as well and then we went straight into the court case. And then Shane died.

"She's fine, I mean she had the operation. She was pregnant at the time so that's why it was difficult.

"She had the operation to remove the tumour after she'd given birth to our second child. Thankfully, touch wood, totally fine."

When the tumour was first discovered, doctors carried out sequencing tests to try and better understand the type of cancer and realised it was much less severe than they initially thought.

Speaking in Ed's documentary, Ed Sheeran: The Sum of It All, which aired on Disney+, Cherry said: "It was the most incredible news. I nearly threw up when the surgeon told us we could wait to the end of the pregnancy to get the tumour out.

"We didn't have to worry about delivering the baby early."

Cherry also issued an update after having a check-up, adding: "Yesterday I had a follow up scan in my arm to see if the tumour had come back. We were silent in the car as we were worried it would be bad.

"It was super triggering being in the same room when things weren't so positive at the start of the year. The surgeon looked at the scans and it all looks good. The lymph nodes have all calmed down. That was amazing. It was massive for us."
