Elliot Page has condemned a decision by the US Supreme Court to uphold a ban preventing trans athletes from competing in women's school and college sports.
Yesterday (30 June), it was revealed that the US Supreme Court ruled that trans women would not be allowed to take part in gender-separated sports teams and events.
The challenge came after two trans athletes from West Virginia and Idaho sought to overturn bans on trans athletes in their respective states.
Page - who is trans and uses both he/him and they/them pronouns - is one of many who've since criticised the ban on social media.

Taking to Instagram, the Juno actor shared a post from the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) which condemned the Supreme Court's decision.

"This is a devastating ruling for trans students across the country who simply want the freedom to play with their friends," the Instagram post read.
"Importantly, the court did not grant politicians what we know they wanted from the start: a broad precedent restricting the freedom of all transgender people in our schools, workplaces, and communities.
"We will never stop defending trans people's equality and freedom."

Page, who came out as a trans man in December 2020, previously spoke candidly about the impact that having gender-affirming surgery had on his life.
"I want people to know that not only has it been life-changing for me," Page told Oprah Winfrey of his top surgery procedure in 2021.
"I do believe it is life-saving and it’s the case for so many people."
For those who are unaware of what top surgery is, it's a procedure to remove breast tissue, allowing for a masculine appearance.
"I feel like I haven’t gotten to be myself since I was 10 years old," he added.
The post comes just days after the actor, who is set to star in Christopher Nolan's upcoming epic The Odyssey, unveiled their chiselled physique on the social media platform.

Revealing that he'd become 'hooked' on boxing after training at 'world-famous' Gleason’s Gym in Brooklyn, where legends such as Muhammad Ali, Jake LaMotta and Roberto Duran perfected their craft.
"He’s a brilliant teacher, not just in the way he breaks down complex movements, but also in his strategic understanding of boxing and his thoughtful approach to the psychological side of the sport," Page said.
"Training with Nolan has become an essential part of my life. If you’re in NYC and looking, I can’t recommend him highly enough.
"Just be warned, you may end up getting as hooked as I am."
Page accompanied their glowing review of the gym by sharing a video sparring alongside coach Nolan Hanson and a very impressive snap of his six-pack.
