Heath Ledger had touching moment with reporter in last ever interview before he died

The star died just weeks later

Heath Ledger had a touching moment with a reporter in his last ever interview before he died.

Gone at the age of just 28, the Australian actor is one of those legendary actors that we’ll probably never, ever forget.

From his role in 10 Things I Hate About You to The Dark Knight, he appeared in a range of genres.

A few months before wrapping up shooting as the Joker in The Dark Knight, which was released posthumously in 2008, Ledger died from an accidental overdose of prescription drugs on 22 January, 2008.

In the year before his death, the star had appeared in the experimental biographical film I’m Not There alongside the likes of Christian Bale and Cate Blanchett as different personas of Bob Dylan.

And it was that work that ended up being the subject of his last interview with ’Chuck the Movieguy’.

Settling down to start their chat, the reporter said that his daughter once again said hi as she’s ‘always bugging him to say hi’ to Ledger.

The actor noted how ‘sweet’ this was as he smiled at the comment and even joked with him as the interviewer said his daughter was currently ‘insane’ about boys.

After that touching moment showing the star’s kindness, he went on to explain how he’d ended up in the role.

“There was another actor actually playing that part and he fell out,” Ledger explained. “So I asked if I could be a part of it.”

The actor explained why he was drawn to the film, saying: “I don’t think Todd [Haynes, the director] wants you to walk out completely understanding who Bob Dylan is because that would be a lie.

“I mean, we don’t know who Bob Dylan is and I think the movie’s trying to preserve his mystique in that way.

“And that’s why I wanted to be a part of it. Biopics can be incredibly defaming to the person they’re trying to create a portrait of and this seemed to be highly respectful of Dylan.

“I was also a big fan of Todd Haynes, I think he’s a genius. And yeah, it just seemed like a good project to be apart of.”

A Hollywood director had previously opened up about a heartbreaking detail about Ledger’s tragic death.

Stephen Gaghan spoke on Malcolm Gladwell's podcast Revisionist History: Development Hell about plans to make a movie named Blink with the star based on a book by Gladwell.

The 58-year-old director opened up about the devastating phone call he received from Ledger's father Kim, shortly after his death.

He recalled: "The dad and the guy who was closest to him in his professional life, they were there with the body and our script was in bed with him, and [Gladwell's] book was on the bedside table.

"I think my number was on the script, like written. These guys, as you can imagine, they are in shock and they dialled that number and I don't know why.

"I'm in an airport with my wife just going from one place to another, and I literally just collapse, never happened to me before or since.”
