Pete Davidson shares emotional video 25 years after dad dies on 9/11

Pete Davidson has paid tribute to his father's legacy, 25 years after the New York City firefighter tragically lost his life in the 9/11 attacks.

The actor was just seven years old when his dad, Scott Davidson, died while responding to the World Trade Center on 11 September, 2001. The 33-year-old was among the 2,977 people who were killed on that day.

To mark the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, Davidson has become the face of the UNIITE For Good campaign, which was set up by non-profit organisation 9/11 Day and aims to turn remembrance into action.

In a video on the charity’s website, the 32-year-old says: “25 years ago, my dad, Scott Davidson, was killed on 9/11. He was a firefighter for Ladder 118, Engine 205 in Brooklyn Heights.”

The Saturday Night Live alum added that Scott ‘loved being a firefighter and he loved saving people, as he did on that day’.

Noting that ‘9/11 is usually a tough day’, Davidson credited 9/11 Day for doing ‘something cool where you do a good deed for someone and you pass it along’.

“Together, let's show up for each other,” he continued. “I think my dad would have loved that.”

Davidson concluded the emotional video by saying: “Let's unite for good.”

Over the years, the comedian has openly discussed his grief and the impact his father’s passing had on him, previously revealing that Scott had 'promised to pick him up' on that fateful day.

Davidson and his ex-girlfriend Elsie Hewitt, 30, welcomed their daughter, Scottie Rose Hewitt Davidson, into the world in December 2025, paying tribute to Scott with the newborn’s adorable moniker.

He recently told the New York Post: “My dad’s name was Scott, but his nickname was Scotty.

“When she arrived, we both looked at her and were like, 'She looks like a Scottie'. It’s nice to keep that name alive.”

Davidson also opened up about why the 25th anniversary would be ‘extra tough’ for him.

“I thought, ‘Oh, he was an old guy. He’s 33,’” he said of his father. “But now I’m there, and I have a kid, and that would be like my kid not having her dad.

“So this year is extra tough, but also extra beautiful because I get to spend the day with Scottie. It’ll be very healing and special.”
