80-year-old Holland Taylor shares secret to relationship with Sarah Paulson

Holland Taylor has opened up about her relationship with Sarah Paulson.

The pair began dating in 2015, with many shocked by the 32-year age gap between them.

However, eight years on and the two actors remain an item.

And now, Holland has revealed the secret to their longevity.

Speaking to Page Six at the Second Stage Theater Fall Gala, where Paulson was honoured, the 80-year-old explained that it's all about being able to give each other some space.

“I think we each follow our own path so we’re not exactly the same,” the Two and a Half Men star said.

“We do some things separately so everyone gets to be true to what they believe.

“She’s much more social, and I like a little bit of alone time, so I have that.

"She spends some time with friends and not with me, so it’s a good balance.”

Despite their close relationship, though, over the years, some have questioned whether two people with some three decades between them should really be together.

In 2017, Taylor admitted that she was nervous about going public.

She told the Edit: “It occurred to me, ‘Should I not?’ And then I thought, ‘Why would I not?'

“The fact I’m having this thought is wrong. But I had a moment of societal concern; wondering if, maybe, people who didn’t know that about me would be like, ‘Wait, what?’ But then, you know, I did it anyway.”

Hitting back at the critics, Paulson previously said that she doesn't care what people have to say about them.

Speaking to The Guardian in 2020, she said: "I don't remember people going nuts about Michael Douglas and Catherine-Zeta Jones, in terms of their age difference.

"For me, that seems to be the predominant interest in my relationship with Holland, what would be perceived by some as the strangeness of it, or the unlikelihood of it. I think people are fascinated by it, because it's so not typical.

"Except for if you look around at plenty of well-known or recognisable couples, when they're heterosexual couples, it just runs rampant, and I don't see anybody becoming obsessed by those relationships."

Last year, Paulson shared an emotional tribute to Taylor on her 79th birthday.

In a post to her Instagram account, the Ratched actor shared a lovely picture of Taylor, with the caption: “Love of my life. The one. The only one.

“January 14th is my favorite [sic] day of the year- a day to unabashedly celebrate you @hollandvtaylor I am the luckiest of the lucky.

“I love you only. Happy Birthday magical poet darling.”
