Jeremy Clarkson’s pub targeted by protesters 'barbecuing dog' outside venue

PETA made one hell of a statement at Jeremy Clarkson’s Farmer’s Dog this week, with a realistic-looking dog sizzling away on a BBQ.

On Wednesday (26 August), the animal rights organisation set up a stand at the Clarkson’s Farm star’s pub in Oxfordshire.

It read: “Wouldn’t eat the farmer’s dog? Why eat a pig! We fired up a ‘dog BBQ’ outside Jeremy Clarkson’s pub and some people were outraged,” PETA tweeted alongside a clip of ‘angry meat eaters’ approaching the Farmer’s Dog.

“Pigs feel pain and fear, love their families, and value their lives - just like dogs do. There’s no difference. Go vegan.”

'Because there’s no more reason to eat a pig than a dog'

PETA Senior Campaigns Manager Kate Werner said: “Clarkson says he’s ‘always been fond of pigs’, and he – and other patrons – ought to put that fondness into practice and leave pigs off their plates.

"Because there’s no more reason to eat a pig than a dog.”

During season three of Clarkson’s Farm, the 66-year-old is visibly emotional over the deaths of his beloved piglets.

His pig breeding strategy ended in heartbreak when two of the farm's pigs gave birth to little piglets, only for around a dozen of them to start dying over a couple of days.

'In order to have the animals, you have to eat them at the correct time'

On why he still eats pork, he said: “The pigs, you have to sell them. Otherwise, nobody would keep pigs if you didn't eat them.

“Well, they get massive and there would be no cows or pigs in the country if people didn't eat them.

'It is weird because you love them'

“So, I've always said that about giant pandas, if you want to save the pandas start eating it, then farmers will quickly go 'I know how we can get this lot breeding'.

“But yeah, so we, you know, in order to have the animals, you have to eat them at the correct time.”

He added: “And it is weird because you love them and you give birth to them, you nurture them and you feed them, you take care of them, you get the vet round when they're poorly, and then you kill them and eat them.

“And it is a strange place to be when you haven't been a farmer all your life. But we are getting better at it. We definitely are.”

PETA UK’s Senior Communications Manager Emily Rice justified the recent demonstration by claiming that ‘the dog barbecue isn’t the first time PETA has forced Clarkson to confront his moral inconsistency’.

“Previously, PETA gifted the vocally anti-vegan TV host a gruesome Christmassacre jumper, added a ‘Kids Book’ starring screaming animals to his reading list, and sent a giant broccoli to ambush his tractor at Farm Fest,” Rice wrote.

“Clarkson employs bluster when defending animal abuse, but deep down, we know it doesn’t sit well with him. He claims he’s ‘always been fond of pigs’ and has shed a tear when sending them to slaughter.

“Will he put his morals where his mouth is and leave pigs off his plate? Will you?”
