Jeremy Clarkson has hit out at claims that food and drink at The Farmer's Dog is too expensive, after revealing he is losing money on the hugely popular venture.
Clarkson's Farm is back, with the latest season introducing us to new faces, new problems arising at Diddly Squat and a candid look at the former motoring presenter's recent health issues.
We're also given a look at just how expensive it is to run a farm and a community pub these days, with numbers man Charlie Ireland delivering the bad news that The Farmer's Dog is haemorrhaging money.
During episode four, 'Updating', Ireland sits down with Clarkson to go over recent numbers from the pub – and the numbers are worrying.

"Profit before taxation... minus £8,486," Clarkson said, after looking at recent trading figures. "We're losing money."
When it came to understanding why the pub isn't turning a profit, Ireland pointed to two reasons: the pub's popularity, they're with punters, 'fully booked' every day, and the price of its food and drinks.
Revealing that he'd recently surveyed his competitors in the area, Clarkson concluded that his menu was 'cheaper than any other pub in the area'.
"We are fundamentally cheaper," he added.
Despite noticing that The Farmer's Dog offered the best value for money when it came to ingredient quality and price, Clarkson went on to complain that media coverage of the pub had been unfair, pointing out that several newspaper articles had run stories saying the food and drink prices were too high.
"If you actually look at the news coverage this place gets," he began. "Every newspaper, every time this pub is mentioned, they all say the same thing: 'This pub is expensive'.

How much does food and drink cost at The Farmer's Dog?
Planning a visit to The Farmer's Dog or want to have a nosy at the prices? We've got you covered.
For starters, a soup of the day costs £9.50, while more substantial appetisers, such as garlic mushrooms, breaded brie or chicken liver parfait, will set you back £12.
Moving on to the main courses, you can expect to pay anywhere between £22 and £28 for a meal. The cheapest options are either a Cotswold sausage or roasted heritage beetroot (both priced at £22), while the slow-roasted saddle of lamb is the priciest dish at £28.
Meanwhile, a steak pie will cost you £26.

Side dishes cost between £2.50 and £5, while desserts come in at £12, with sorbet and ice cream available for £5 for anyone looking to save a few pennies on their pudding.
The pub's Sunday menu has similar prices, excluding a meatless roast, which is available for £16, while a pint of Hawkstone lager or cider is £7.

Of course, these aren't the most economical meals on offer, compared to say, fast food places or your local Wetherspoons, but I'd hazard a guess that most people visiting The Farmer's Dog aren't going to get dirt cheap grub.

"The fact is, we're cheaper," Clarkson concluded. "So here we are with a totally unfounded reputation in all of the newspapers [that] we're expensive when we're not.
"We're paying more for the food than any other pub and charging less," he added.
Sadly, Clarkson wasn't able to justify the prices of food at the time of filming, with the most recent menu more likely to be in line with other pubs in the area.
"We have to put the prices up," he added.
