The family of a disabled war veteran who are ordered to pay Katy Perry $1.8 million over a dispute have hit out at the pop star and her team.

The 'Dark Horse' singer, 41, has been in a lengthy legal battle with Carl Westcott, 86, after she purchased an 9,000 sq ft eight-room mansion from him in Montecito, California in 2020 for $11.25million.

Just days after signing a deal, however, Westcott claimed he was under the influence of 'several intoxicating pain-killing opiates' at the time.

The businessman was diagnosed with genetic brain disorder Huntington's Disease in 2015 and claims he 'did not want to sell his home'.

Just days before the contract was drawn up, Westcott underwent a 'major six-hour' surgery on his back, which led to him being placed on 'multiple opiate medications'.

His defence said the medications 'seriously impaired [Westcott’s] mental faculties to the point he was of unsound mind and not competent to give his free, voluntary, or intelligent consent to the contract'.

Despite the arguments against Perry and her business manager Bernie Gudvi, a judge concluded in May 2024 that Westcott presented 'no persuasive evidence that he lacked capacity to enter into a real estate contract'.

And in court documents obtained by People, Perry is now owed $1,842,142.84 in damages from the Westcott family.

The man's son Chart Westcott, 39, previously told The Sun: "It's entitled celebrity behaviour.

"She has no sense of fair play, no empathy, zero empathy, quite the opposite.

"The worse the condition my father is in, the harsher they've been in trial."

He went on: "There's no real explanation other than greed.

"This is such a small deal to be worried about - I think it's a matter of privilege - her lawyers and her business manager are dealing with it."

Chart explained that his father is in 'horrible condition' in hospital and has been 'bedridden for well over 18 months'.

"His activity level is very low, he's not awake very often, he's very foggy - and still recognises us, but the decline is just consistent, and very painful for our family to watch," the brother-in-law of Real Housewives of Dallas star Kameron Westcott said.

Perry purchased the home with her ex Orlando Bloom, yet sources have told the outlet that the pair had been renting it out back in February.

The Grammy-nominated singer is currently travelling on her Lifetimes Tour, while Gudvi is expected to appear at a hearing on 30 December.
