Winona Ryder accidentally got married to Keanu Reeves while filming a movie

The pair may be bonded in a way that wasn't evident on screen

In a bizarre twist of events, Winona Ryder once accidentally married Keanu Reeves while filming a movie together.

But let's face it, accidentally tying the knot with 'Hollywood's nicest guy' definitely isn't the worst thing to happen, right?

Winona Ryder has been making headlines this week after the trailer for Beetlejuice 2 dropped, seeing her revive her role as Lydia 36 years on from the original movie being released in 1988.

The 52-year-old will be returning alongside Michael Keaton, who plays Beetlejuice, as well as Catherine O'Hara.

The original film is beloved for a multitude of reasons and it helped kickstart Ryder's decades long career in Hollywood.

Along the way she's had chemistry with leading men like Johnny Depp in Edward Scissorhands and David Harbour in Stranger Things.

But with one co-star she got exceptionally close - unintentionally.

If you cast your mind back to 1992, you might recall that Ryder starred alongside Keanu Reeves in Dracula.

The two had a wedding scene in the movie, and director Francis Ford Coppola wanted it to be as authentic as possible. He may have taken it to the extreme, however...

Ryder recalled: "We actually got married in Dracula. No, I swear to God, I think we're married in real life."

Given that the priest in the scene was a legit man of the cloth, there was always a good chance there'd be some blurred lines.

"We shot the master and he did the whole thing. So I think we're married," Ryder said.

I think I can speak for many people when I say there's worse fates in life than being married to Keanu Reeves.

This admission came during the press tour for their second movie together Destination Wedding, which was released in 2018.

It seems Reeves didn't have quite the same memory as her as when she asked him: "Don't you remember that? It was Valentine's Day," he eventually surrendered: "Oh my gosh, we're married."

In the 1992 adaptation of Bram Stoker's classic vampire novel, Ryder played Mina Harker, the vampire's main obsession, and Reeves played her fiancé.

Ryder revealed in an interview how Coppola tried to get Reeves to make her cry by hurling abuse at her - which the actor refused to do.

Speaking to The Sunday Times, Ryder recalled a scene where Dracula - played by Gary Oldman - transformed into a pile of rats.

Meanwhile, behind the camera, Coppola repeatedly shouted insults at her and attempted to get the film's male cast to follow suit - so that her crying would be believable.

"To put it in context, I'm supposed to be crying," Ryder explained to the newspaper.

"Literally, Richard R Grant, Anthony Hopkins, Keanu... Francis was trying to get all of them to yell things that would make me cry.

"But Keanu wouldn't, Anthony wouldn't ... It just didn't work. I was, like, really? It kind of did the opposite."
