Terrifying new horror is shot from unique perspective of a slasher killer

It's a point of view rarely, if ever, portrayed in TV and film

We've all seen Scream and the copycat films since its iconic release, where all eyes are on the innocent victim of a brutal, murderous killer.

Well, it's time to flip the tables.

A brand new horror film is about to be unveiled, and it does something that goes entirely against the grain of the genre.

Instead of focusing on the victims as they hope to flee whatever is after them, the point of view being shown to the viewer will be that of the killer.

Check out the trailer here:

The eerie trailer for In A Violent Nature has just dropped, with fans of the genre already chomping at the bit for more.

The film follows a murderous mute as he targets a group of teens in rural Canada.

Footage in the trailer shows us overlooking a lake, with a wooden dock partly in the shot.

Critical reviews of the film appear in writing over the lake, including the words of Chase Hutchinson from Collider, who said: "You've never seen a horror film like this."

Suddenly, and rather morbidly so, a body appears from under the water. You're made to look while it just floats there.

The footage then moves to a hooded man with a hook and chain in hand before the screen cuts to black, with just the film title on the screen.

It's ominous, and even though it lacks the blood and guts you'd expect from a slasher, it certainly sets the tone that it's on the way if you watch the full thing.

Streaming platform Shudder - which specialises in horror, thriller and supernatural films - is behind the new flick, which audiences can subscribe to through Amazon Prime for £4.99 a month.

In A Violent Nature debuted to critics on 22 January at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.

Since then, it holds a certified 92 percent critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Polygon's Austen Goslin said: "It's a rare treat and a fantastic exercise in taking a genre in the opposite direction that everyone else has tried."

While Cheryl Eddy from io9.com wrote: "You have never seen a slasher like this before, and probably never will again.

"It's a fascinating artistic experiment, and genre fans should definitely give it a look.

"But it may also make you wish you were watching a traditional slasher."

Responding to the trailer over on X (formerly Twitter), one person said: "Interesting perspective for a horror movie, should be good."

Another wrote: "The title of the film is perfect."

And on YouTube, one user added: "Coming soon is not soon enough! I want to see this now!"

As it stands, In A Violent Nature does not have a release date.

But you can expect it to be released in cinemas sometime this year and then on the Shudder streaming platform soon after.
