Keith Urban's very awkward Nicole Kidman tattoos resurface amid divorce

That's going to be a right pain to cover up

After the news of Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman's divorce broke recently, it seems as if the singer might have to do some awkward tattoo cover-ups.

The pair first met in 2005, and a year later, they got engaged and married, with their wedding ceremony taking place in Kidman and Urban's native Australia. The actor and singer also have two daughters together, Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14.

On 30 September, it was reported that Kidman, 58, had filed for divorce after 19 years of marriage, with documents filed in Nashville citing 'marital difficulties and irreconcilable differences'.

Since then, numerous things have come to the forefront, including the 57-year-old country singer 'changing' a lyric before the filing, or his alleged 'cocaine clause'.

Urban also has four tattoos dedicated to his soon-to-be ex-wife, each with a different meaning reflecting their relationship.

'Babygirl' neck tattoo

One of the singer's most recent ink includes the word 'babygirl' on the back of his neck. He has previously referred to Kidman as 'babygirl', like in an anniversary tribute on Instagram.

"Happy anniversary babygirl !!!!!!! my life started when you said ‘I do’ 5475 days ago today," he wrote.

However, since Kidman's role in the 2024 film, Babygirl, where she plays a CEO who pursues a kinky love affair with a much younger work colleague, it has seemingly taken on an entirely new meaning.

The Eyes Wide Shut star previously told W Magazine: "He actually has 'babygirl' tattooed on the back of his neck. Keith’s not allowed to call anyone else babygirl.

"But now, because of the film, it’s taken on a different meaning. So he’s like, 'No, I still have total rights over babygirl!'."

On his bicep, Urban has the Moulin Rouge! star's name in large font, which, according to PEOPLE, was done back in 2007.

Fans got their first glimpse of it at his Live Earth New York performance this same year, but since then, he's added some upgrades to it, as the tattoo now features some Celtic knots.

'Mary' knuckle tattoo

That's not the only reference to her name that Urban has tattooed on his body, as he also has her middle name, Mary, tattooed on his knuckles.

US Weekly reports that he first showcased his tribute at the ACM Awards in April 2021.

However, because of the large lettering, it comes with a minor problem, as he told QX14 Country that same year: "I realized that I suddenly can't wear any rings on that hand because otherwise her name becomes...various [words]."

'NMK' wrist tattoo

In addition to her middle name, Urban also has her initials incorporated into another tattoo. According to PEOPLE, her initials are tattooed on the inside of his wrist, which is part of a cover-up from a matching tattoo he'd gotten with supermodel ex Niki Taylor.

Taylor and Urban had dated for four years and both got the Latin phrase 'amor vincit omnia', which translates to 'love conquers all'.

He wasn't the only one to cover it up, though, as she also got rid of it. Although if I were him, I'd maybe avoid getting matching tattoos with whoever he ends up with next.

As for what will happen regarding their two daughters, a parenting plan was also provided in the divorce papers, which also showed the pair's reported monthly income.

The parenting agreement said: "The mother and father will behave with each other and each child so as to provide a loving, stable, consistent and nurturing relationship with the child even though they are divorced.

“They will not speak badly of each other or the members of the family of the other parent. They will encourage each child to continue to love the other parent and be comfortable in both families.”
