While this month might have already seen two music biopics released in cinemas, there have been other options for film fans.

From Nicole Kidman getting steamy in Babygirl to viewers leaving in tears over We Live in Time, there has of course been a choice for horror fans in the form of Nosferatu.

The gothic film from Robert Eggers landed on New Year’s Day and stars the likes of Bill Skarsgård, Nicholas Hoult and Lily-Rose Depp.

But having recently been released online, Depp’s horrifying audition video for the flick has left people with one common question.

The 25-year-old plays Ellen Hutter in the remake of the 1922 film, who had plead for the arrival of something supernatural to ease her loneliness.

Nosferatu has some pretty mixed reviews from audiences and it’s ended up with a decent 84 percent on Rotten Tomatoes from critics.

Based on Dracula, the movie is set in the 1800s and follows estate agent Thomas Hutter (Hoult), who is sent to a far-off land of Transylvania to sell some property to a mysterious count. When it turns out that Count Orlok (Skarsgård) is actually evil and has come to take away his bride Ellen, a race begins to save her soul from the vampire.

Depp’s had a fair bit of praise for her performance but her audition tape has caused a stir for reasons other than her acting.

Typically when we see audition tapes, the actor will either be in a rehearsal room or often, at home. Such is the style of a self-tape, they’ll typically be stood against a blank wall, reading out a scene while a friend is off-camera, saying the other lines and filming.

But in this case with Depp, she seems to be sat down at home and being recorded on a webcam. Yep, it literally looks like her audition has been done on the same kind of Zoom call you’ll have with your colleagues.

Only this is a little more horrifying than it just being a 9am meeting on a Monday.

Depp shouts out lines and trembles as her audition is described as ‘intense’.

And users on X have asked: “Why was it over Zoom,” with laughing faces.

“Why this look like a Zoom call,” another queried as plenty were wondering: “Whey they auditioning over Zoom?”

But many people have pointed out a pretty reasonable explanation for this less than usual audition tape.

“During pandemic,” they suggested.

Well, either way, it’s not a Zoom call you’d want to be on the other end of.
