Lucy Beaumont shares Jon Richardson divorce update after making brutal joke in live show

Lucy Beaumont and Jon Richardson announced their divorce in a joint statement earlier this month.

Comedian Lucy Beaumont has provided us with an update to her impending divorce from husband Jon Richardson after making a hilarious joke during a live show.

Earlier this month, the comedic couple - who starred together in Meet The Richardsons - announced that they are divorcing after nine years of marriage.

“After nine years of marriage, we would like to announce that we have separated," they said in a joint statement.

“We have jointly and amicably made the difficult decision to divorce and go our separate ways.

“As our only priority is managing this difficult transition for our daughter, we would ask that our privacy is respected at this sensitive time to protect her well-being.

“We will be making no further comment.”

Now, Beaumont addressed the situation during a stand-up gig at London's Bloomsbury Theatre on Sunday (21 April).

The 40-year-old was performing the first leg of her comedy tour 'The Trouble and Strife', with 'strife' being cockney slang for 'wife'.

Ironically, the description ahead of the show read: "Award-winning stand-up comedian BEFORE she met Jon Richardson, Live at the Apollo & Taskmaster star and BAFTA nominee Lucy Beaumont…"

In a review by the Metro, she brutally joked: "I didn’t have time to change the show."

Beaumont explained that she and Jon actually split up 'last year', and because a news publication allegedly ‘found out’, they decided to go public with it.

Although, she insisted that the pair are 'still friends' and that 'it's the best for everybody'.

This comes after a 2023 episode of Channel 4 show Eight Out Of Ten Cats Does Countdown resurfaced, as Beaumont joked about leaving Richardson during a segment.

As Jimmy Carr introduced team captain Jon to the viewers along with his team, which included his wife, he quipped: "Lucy and Jon are married. So I know Lucy, everyone watching at home is dying to know... What made you decide to settle?"

Beaumont then joked: "I don't see this for life. Isn't it a song - just passing through? Is it?"

Carr continued: "Just passing through?"

To which she replied: "You meet in your life old souls, new souls... A***holes."

Beaumont then admitted that the two 'had a lovely life together', also joking that she had never eaten an avocado before meeting her husband at the time.

She then said: "Who knows what will happen in the future."

The former couple have one daughter together, who was born in 2016.
