Scooby-Doo star Matthew Lillard has addressed Quentin Tarantino's critique of his acting skills.

A number of actors caught a stray earlier this week after Tarantino went on a rant about the 'weak and uninteresting' performance Paul Dano put on in There Will Be Blood.

While ripping into the 41-year-old's lack of presence on screen, the renowned director also fired shots at the likes of Owen Wilson and Matthew Lillard.

The Oscar-winning filmmaker said he 'doesn't care for' Dano, Wilson or Lillard - which, as you can imagine, is probably the last thing that a Hollywood star wants to hear.

Tarantino, 62, has a boatload of clout in the film world, so it's obviously quite a kick in the teeth for him to publicly slate them.

Many names in Hollywood, including Ben Stiller and Dillon Freasier, have shared their support for Dano in recent days, while Lillard has now also spoken out about what he thinks of getting caught in the crossfire.

While appearing at GalaxyCon in Columbus, Ohio, earlier this week, the Five Nights at Freddy's actor confessed that Tarantino's comments 'hurt his feelings'.

"Quentin Tarantino this week said he didn't like me as an actor," he told the audience, who began booing at the mere mention of the filmmaker's name.

"Eh, whatever, who gives a s**t...The point is, is that it hurts your feelings - it f**king sucks.

"And you wouldn't say that to Tom Cruise. You wouldn't say that to somebody who's a top-line actor in Hollywood."

"I'm very popular in this room. I'm not very popular in Hollywood. Two totally different microcosms, right? And so, you know, it's humbling, and it hurts."

Footage of Lillard's response has since gone viral, while social media users have rallied behind him.

One person commented: "Oh I was livid about Paul Dano but I had no idea he included Matthew Lillard- now we riot."

Another said: "I'd rather be in a room where Matthew Lillard is popular than a room where Tarantino is."

A third chimed in: "To hear Lillard say it did hurt him is a bummer."

While a fourth added: "Matthew Lillard is insanely talented, I hate that this is even a conversation."

Scream star Lillard previously described himself as 'not Daniel-Day Lewis enough' when discussing his filmography while promoting the 2012 film Trouble with the Curve, starring Clint Eastwood.

He explained that his roles can be hit or miss, saying: "For every three good movies that I have, there’s seven terrible ones. This would qualify as a good one.

"Also, it’s very rare to collect a legend in your history or be affiliated with a legend. This is one of those opportunities. And other than that, I am a blue-collar actor and it’s a gig.

"It’s a good gig. And there’s something to be said for that."

Lillard went on to say that his career 'ebbs and flows' in terms of his success.

"My career is an example of what doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger," he added. "I have been working the whole time, but nobody saw those bad movies. I don’t apologise for that. I have kids to feed."
