Blue Ivy breaks Met Gala rule as she makes debut with Beyoncé and Jay-Z

A body language expert has claimed to have deciphered how Blue Ivy was feeling about attending the historic bash

Celebrities from around the world gathered at fashion's biggest event last night for the 2026 Met Gala.

The opportunity to dress in expensive suits and dresses is one that the world's most famous people rarely turn down, even if it means sticking to the theme and facing plenty of backlash if your outfit doesn't cut the mustard.

Last night's event at the Metropolitan Museum of Art had plenty of talking points once again, with Heidi Klum and Katy Perry perhaps stealing the show with their unusual outfits, which saw the Queen of Halloween dressed as a living statue, while Katy Perry made reference to AI and space in her futuristic 'astro-chic' look that left a lot of people confused.

But sticking to the theme isn't the only rule that celebs are expected to follow in New York, as it's also exclusively for people over the age of 18, which thankfully means that many of the brain rot generation of influencers didn't make the cut.

However, if there is ever proof that nepotism exists, we saw Blue Ivy make her Met Gala debut last night at the age of just 14, as she accompanied her parents Beyoncé and Jay-Z to the illustrious event.

Her presence was no doubt aided by the fact that Beyoncé, who was returning for the first time in 10 years, was one of the co-chairs for this year's event, alongside Nicole Kidman (who also brought her 17-year-old daughter), Venus Williams, and global editorial director of Vogue Anna Wintour.

The teenager wore a white Balenciaga dress with jewellery which complemented her mother's skeleton-themed dress, as she became one of the youngest ever to attend the event.

According to body language expert Inbaal Honigman, the teen was feeling the pressure.

She told Tyla in collaboration with Casino.org US: "Her poses are polished, she’s clearly been practising specific moves, as her lowered chin and hands-on-hips are meant to look mature and confident.

"But soon Blue Ivy is seen fiddling with her jacket, she’s also glancing nervously from side to side. Blue’s nervous fidgeting gives her away."

In 2018, Maddie Ziegler told The Hollywood Reporter that she couldn't go because she wasn't old enough at the time, with event organisers later telling the outlet that 'it’s not an appropriate event for people under 18'.

However, it seems as if you can go if you're accompanied with your parents, like it's a PG-13 film.

Although some teenagers wouldn't dream of going to a public event with their parents, Blue Ivy's are among the most famous on the planet, so she was probably very happy to attend last night's event and support her mother in her role as co-chair.

What do the Met Gala co-chairs actually do?

While Anna Wintour and the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute handle the actual planning of the Met Gala, the co-chairs play a major role in shaping the event.

The role of co-chair goes beyond the traditional hosting duties. It’s believed they oversee the guest list, interior design, and even help curate the highly anticipated menu to bring the chosen theme to life, though Wintour has the final say.

Often influential figures in fashion, film, music, or sports, they act as public faces of the Met Gala and ultimately attract media attention, high-profile guests and donors - it is a fundraising event after all.

Who are the 2026 Met Gala co-chairs?

The co-chairs for the 2026 Met Gala are Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams and Vogue’s global editorial director Anna Wintour.

It marks Kidman’s third time as a co-chair; she previously held the position in 2003 and 2005.

Beyoncé, who last graced the Met steps in 2016, will be taking on the role of co-chair for the first time. However, the singer served as an honorary chair back in 2013.

Despite being a regular on the Met Gala red carpet, it will also be Williams’ debut as co-chair, following in the footsteps of her sister, Serena, who was appointed to the role in 2019.

As lead sponsors of the 2026 Met Gala, Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez Bezos will serve as honorary chairs for the evening.
