The Met Gala is a chance for some very famous people in very stylish (and sometimes impractical) outfits to strut around and look fancy, but there are two people not allowed to this glitzy event.
Think of a really famous person and chances are they've been to the Met Gala at some point, so it takes something special to have been told you're not allowed to come.
It seems the decision is up to Anna Wintour, the Vogue editor until 2025, as she is the lead chair of the Met Gala.
The first of these is Donald Trump, who Wintour appears to have banned after he became US president.

Trump had attended the Met Gala in the past but in 2017 shortly after he was sworn into office Wintour was asked by James Corden if there was anyone she wouldn't be asking to come back in the future and said 'Donald Trump'.

The other person banned from the event is Tim Gunn of Project Runway fame, and according to Cosmopolitan it's because he's got some 'beef' with Wintour.
In 2016 he remarked that it was true he wasn't going to the Met Gala after ending up in an 'open war' with the former Vogue editor.
He said: "It is very true. It is a crazy story, and as far as I’m concerned, it’s a very matter-of-fact story.
"I was asked what is the most unforgettable thing I’ve ever seen in fashion and I said, ‘It’s easy. It was watching Anna Wintour being carried down five flights of stairs by two bodyguards—two big hulking men—from a fashion show.’
"All hell broke loose. It was insane. We’ve had an open war ever since."
He's not shown up since then, so it appears their open war is still ongoing.

There does exist such a thing as the spirit of forgiveness in this regard, as you can badmouth the Met Gala and still end up returning to it in the future.
Gwyneth Paltrow said it 'sucked' in 2013, but she has since been to subsequent events so it's possibly not forever.
There's also a few famous faces who've said they don't want to go to the party, like Amy Schumer who went in 2016 but left early after meeting Beyonce and deciding it wasn't her thing.
Zayn Malik also went in 2016, but a couple of years later he told GQ he'd rather stay home 'outside of the mix', with his stylist telling him 'this is really good for you to do' but realising when he got there 'it's not for me'.
Lili Reinhart suggested to W magazine she 'wouldn't be invited back after saying certain things about a certain person in a certain dress', that certain person being Kim Kardashian and her trying to fit into Marilyn Monroe's iconic dress.
Tina Fey went in 2010 and told David Letterman it had been 'a parade of jerks from every walk of life, all wearing something stupid', she's not been back.
