Michael Bublé opens up about his young son’s devastating cancer battle

The singer's son received a heartbreaking hepatoblastoma diagnosis in 2016.

Michael Bublé has opened up about his son’s devastating cancer battle.

The King of Christmas appeared on Steven Bartlett’s highly popular The Diary of a CEO podcast and got candid about his Noah's heartbreaking hepatoblastoma diagnosis.

The young boy was only three when doctors delivered the news back in 2016, to which the crooner singer admitted it was a ‘sledgehammer’ to his life.

“My son's cancer diagnosis rocked my world. It pulled the curtain from over my eyes. I don't want to get deeper into it, but I don't think I had context,” he began.

“That was a sledgehammer to my reality, I will never be carefree again in my life, and that's OK.

“It is a privilege for me to exist and that pain, fear and suffering that comes with those sorts of things, it's part of this life.”

Bublé then decided to take a step back from his career and prioritise spending time with his family.

“When it actually happened, I was going through a crisis. I don't think I had my priorities straight. My family was always a love - I don't think I was a terrible guy but it was blinders - career, ambition, how do I become the baddest, biggest, best? More ego, more power,” he said.

Hepatoblastoma is a rare type of liver cancer that is primarily found in young children.

It’s the most common malignant (cancerous) liver tumour in children. Hepatoblastoma usually develops in the cells of the liver called hepatocytes, which are responsible for various liver functions.

Bublé went on to say that before his son’s diagnosis, he felt like he was living life in front of a ‘curtain’, only for it to be cruelly ripped away from him.

“I remember closing my eyes and saying to myself, if we get out of this I'm living a different life, a better life. And I did, I made that promise to myself in a moment,” he continued.

“I want to be kinder, I want to be more empathetic, I don't want that ego and that false self to take over, I want to know how lucky I am.”

Noah, who is now 10, received chemotherapy following his diagnosis and is currently in remission.

Bublé shares Noah with Luisana Lopilato and three other children: Elias, seven; Vida, five; and Cielo, one.
