Michael McIntyre has opened up about using Mounjaro for weight loss purposes after the comedian was called 'obese' by doctors.

A huge number of celebrities in particular seem to be turning to GLP-1 receptor drugs such as Mounjaro, Ozempic and Wegovy in recent times as they look to shed weight quickly and easily, even if it means putting up with side effects that aren't particularly pleasant.

Jeremy Clarkson and Amy Schumer were some of the first to discuss their Ozempic use but both moved on to Mounjaro after seriously struggling with sickness, as it works by wiping out your normal appetite and making you feel far fuller than you actually are.

McIntyre is the latest name in showbiz to suggest that he's also become a user of the drug, which also works to lower blood sugar levels in the body, in its natural role as a medicine for those with type 2 diabetes.

However, it's only after a brutal £4,000 weight loss course that left him feeling 'depressed' and some encouragement from his wife Kitty that the funnyman decided to take the plunge into the medicine, which has recently been added as a weight loss drug by the NHS for those that meet specific requirements.

He spoke of his previous clinic experience, which he attended alongside close friend Paul Tomkinson, on Jessie Ware's Table Manners podcast in 2020, saying: "You drink the Epsom salts first thing and then within 20 minutes, the whole of the clinic – which is full of wealthy fat people – are all rushing to the lavatory. I lost a stone – we were only there six days. I was so emotional, depressed and confused and Paul was skeletal."

At a recent comedy show, he reportedly spoke of his more recent run-in with Mounjaro: reportedly telling the crowd: "Have you noticed how tiny I am? I have lost weight. Don’t applaud it because there is a little bit of cheating that has gone on. The doctor told me I weighed 100kg. He told me I was "obese". How rude. He said, 'It’s a medical term.'"

As per The Sun, he started on the weight-loss jabs when his wife 'ordered' him to, having reached 100kg, and it's been a success for him since. Although, he has warned that he might put the weight back on if he gives into temptation and eats anything sweet.

Doctors have warned that keeping the weight off is one of the hardest things about taking GLP-1 receptor agonists as weight loss drugs, as the appetite will no longer be suppressed once you come off the drugs.

However, some users have found success by slowly weaning themselves off the drug, so it is possible.
