The Oscars ceremony may be the most high-profile TV event of the Hollywood calendar, but fans have already taken to social media to make a serious complaint about the broadcast.

The Oscars opened in slightly controversial fashion, with Conan O’Brien aiming a massively risky joke at the arrest of Prince Andrew and firing a shot at Timothee Chalamet over his ongoing controversy following comments about ballet and opera.

So far though viewers of the Oscars have been left raging due to a serious technical issue with the show so far.

The complaint centres around the presenter who is reading out all of the awards and nominees – and the fact that no one can hear what they’re actually saying.

The Oscars announcer is a Hollywood favourite – but no one can hear them

The Oscars have in recent years hired actors who are well known for their iconic voices for the role of the show’s announcer.

Last year this was Parks and Recreation star Nick Offerman, whose signature low voice soundtracked the nominees being read out. This year though they went with Matt Berry.

Berry’s unique voice and iconic inflection from The IT Crowd has long made him a beloved UK TV sensation, but his work on What We Do in the Shadows has on multiple occasions seen him go viral for his line reads.

When it was announced that he would be announcing the nominees fans were ecstatic, and so have been left raging at technical difficulties making it near impossible to hear him.

Fans are claiming that Berry is ‘barely audible’ over the audience

One fan tweeted: “Why would you hire someone like Matt Berry as the announcer at the Oscars and then have his voice drowned out by the music???”

Another said: “Can announcer Matt Berry speak up? he's Barely audible over the crowds.”

Others slightly unfairly blamed ITV who are broadcasting the show for the UK, tweeting: “Sort out the F*cking sound problems ITV.”

A fourth fan more simply tweeted: "Cannot hear Matt Berry at all when he does the sound over."

A fifth said: "Matt berry has been done so dirty by this sound mix i can barely hear him."
