Ricky Gervais finally tells shocking x-rated Jason Momoa joke cut from Golden Globes

The comedian explained why he held back on a joke about the Aquaman star

Ricky Gervais is one of the most controversial comedians out there but there's one thing he's consistently proved - any name, big or small, can get it.

While the Brit may be best known on our shores for his work on The Office, Derek and The Ricky Gervais Show, he's primarily known for hosting the Golden Globes over on that side of the pond.

Americans also may know him from The Invention of Lying and Extras, but after hosting the prestigious awards ceremony five times in the space of ten years, it's fair to say that this is what many associate the 64-year-old with.

Gervais rarely ever pulls his punches, having brutally ripped into almost every Hollywood A-Lister with his scathing monologues, often about the reality of the real world and the Hollywood bubble most celebrities are in.

While the comedian has recently made headlines for adverts on the London Underground joking about having a stab vest, he has recently been successful with his newly released stand-up special, Mortality.

He took to social media yesterday (31 December) to share that the special topped Netflix charts around the world, though one moment in particular seemed to stand out.

After hosting the Golden Globes in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2016, and 2020, Gervais said that he'd never had a joke rejected by organisers, though there was one that he stopped himself from doing.

The special, which was filmed at London's Palladium earlier this year, was where the actor decided to share the NSFW joke for the first time.

Gervais revealed that it was about Aquaman himself, Jason Momoa.

He explained: "I said earlier I've never had a joke stopped by the Golden Globes and that is absolutely true. But I've just remembered a joke that I stopped myself because I bottled it a bit and I wanna... I think I was being overcautious, I wanna share it with you.

"So, I got the chance to introduce Jason Momoa. So I thought the meta joke would be to show my hypocrisy and my cowardice, I'm okay to sl*g off actors, who's scared of actors? But when it comes to a big dude, I'm not so brave," he admitted.

Speaking about the 6 feet 4 actor, he revealed: "So I was gonna say, 'I've got nothing bad to say about our next presenter, 'cause he's got a c*ck like a baby's arm', right?"

It turns out that a comment from a friend of his caused him to pull the joke, as he explained: "I told my mate I was gonna do that and my mate went, 'Do you think people will think that's racist?' I went 'Why is it racist?'"

His friend pointed out that Momoa was a person of colour, though the comedian insisted that it was nothing to do with that, with the joke instead referring to his size, so 'he'd probably have a c*ck like a baby's arm'.

In the end, Gervais left it in his drafts, though when speaking to the crowd he revealed his planned follow-up, which was about one of Momoa's fellow Game of Thrones co-stars.

Speaking as if he was hosting the Golden Globes again, he said: "I've got nothing bad to say about our next presenter 'cause he's got a c*ck like a baby's arm', Gervais quipped before saying: "Unlike Peter Dinklage who's got an arm like a baby's c*ck'."

I guess we'll never know if Momoa would have taken too well to that, but I'd guess not.
