Robert Pattinson reveals why he's open to a Twilight reboot after admitting he hated his character

Even Pattinson's co-star didn't believe his response

Despite what he’s said in the past, Robert Pattinson has revealed there’s a certain reason that leaves him open to returning to one of his most famous roles.

Yep, the Edward Cullen actor has suggested he would actually be up for a reboot of The Twilight Saga.

Although it comes with a pretty sarky reasoning, but just not so sarky that he flew through the lie detector test breezily.

You might have seen that Pattinson’s been doing a press tour with Jennifer Lawrence recently for their upcoming comedy-drama, Die My Love.

But despite all of the films and major roles he’s been in since, there’s no denying that a lot of people know him best for playing the iconic vampire in the franchise from 2008 to 2012.

Over this past decade or so, though, Pattinson has poked a fair bit of fun at the role, having even once joked about the novel it’s based on: “When I read it, it felt like a book that shouldn’t have been published.”

He’s long referred to it as a ‘weird story’ and has even said he pretty much hated his character.

Pattinson told Empire Magazine back in 2008: “He's the most ridiculous person who's so amazing at everything. I think a lot of actors tried to play that aspect. I just couldn't do that.

“And the more I read the script, the more I hated this guy, so that's how I played him, as a manic-depressive who hates himself. Plus, he's a 108-year-old virgin, so he's obviously got some issues there."

I mean, with his comments, it’s pretty important to remember Pattinson has quite a specific brand of British humour and doesn’t particularly shy away from taking the p**s.

And during Vanity Fair’s lie detector test with Lawrence, she asked: “If they were gonna direct a new Twilight, would you do it?”

“Oh yeah, for sure,” he responded as his co-star looked absolutely baffled and said: “I don’t think you should, but ok.”

“It would be great,” Pattinson continued, passing the test, “I like taking jobs off younger actors. I do. I wanna play 17 again – there’s a movie, Zac’s movie, 17 Again.

“I wanna be 17 again, every year.”

He went on to joke that he is Gen Z, while Lawrence doubled down that at 39 years old, he is very much a millennial.

So, Twilight fans, take from that what you will, but do you seriously think a nearly 40-year-old could play the immortal Edward Cullen?
