Scarlett Johansson says life is in 'deficit' despite earning $43,000,000 last year
In 2025, Scarlett Johansson was named as the highest-paid actress.
It’s estimated that her net worth sits at about $165 million, with an impressive list of credits, and is tipped as the second highest-grossing actor in history.
But despite all this wealth, the 41-year-old has said there’s always a ‘deficit’ in her life.
Given her long list of roles, it’s fair to say that Johansson must be pretty hard working.

Just a handful of the projects she’s starred in include Black Widow, Jojo Rabbit, Marriage Story and Lucy. And on top of acting, Johannson has her skincare brand, The Outset and her production company, These Pictures.
But she is also a mum to two children, one who she shares with ex Romain Dauriac and the other with husband, Colin Jost.
With a fair bit on her plate, Johansson spoke about there not quite being a good work-life balance. In fact, she reckons it’s impossible to achieve.
“I think actually admitting that there is no work-life balance is the first step to kind of getting there in a way, because it’s not possible,” she said during an interview with CBS Sunday Morning.
“There’s always something that is … there’s a deficit in some area, and I think you have to be … I learned to be more kind to myself. You can’t do all of these things all the time and so, you know … there’s just like … is it good enough?”
Johansson also spoke about her shift in how she views success as she explained: “Somebody once told me, ‘If you’re successful as a parent like 75% of the time, that’s good’ — if you’re doing 75% of it like right, then you’re winning, which is probably true.”
But one thing she does certainly seem to have (at least publicly) is the ability for her and Jost to take the p**s out of each other.
It’s something we’ve seen frequently on Saturday Night Live where her husband is a cast member.
Earlier this year, he reacted to the news that she had been replaced as the highest-grossing actress ever.
Whilst reading from cue cards during 'Weekend Update', he said: "Zoe Saldana - who stars in the new Avatar movie - has surpassed Scarlett Johansson to become the highest-grossing actress of all time."
As a bar graph of their earnings appeared onscreen, the presenter said: "Okay, well let’s see what happens if you include the box office from Scarlett’s husband’s movies."
It showed Scarlett's earnings fell from $15.4 billion to $15.1 billion as Jost sarcastically asked in feigned shock: “It went down?!”
